Scratchy sound from cd/dvd combo

This is the strangest thing I have trying to resolve for weeks. The sound is fine when listening to anything from the internet or stored on the hard drive. But when watching a dvd or listening to a cd through the laptop speakers, the sound is distorted and scratchy/skipping, the video is perfect, but when I attach my external speakers, the sound is fine again. I have tried the trouble shooting, reinstalled codecs. I did not knowlingly install any programs, it just started one day when I went to watch a dvd.

Hi,
This could be a couple of Things.
First if it,s DVD Player related. it could be that The DVD Player, needs the laser Head Cleaning. Any dust-grease or similar on the Laser head, will cause Distortion. The second option is the DVD Player itself. Some DVDs are removable Drives. with An eject Rom button underneath the Laptop. This will enable you to remove. Check the drives connection Pins At the rear of the Drive. ** Clean with a Bud/Swab moistened in lighter fluid/Meths** replace the Drive.
The other possible problem would be with your Laptops Sound Card/ Board if Fitted.
Finally The problem could be related to a motherboard Fault i.e Bad earth or other internal Component Fault.
Go simplist first ( clean the DVDs Laser Head.
Then Remove the actual DVD Drive if Possible. ** Check Connections At rear** Ensure that the drive has not been dislodged from its connector to laptop mainboard.

Regards And Good-Luck.

CD Drives read only
COMPACT.DISKS.
DVD/CD Combo drives are meant to have support for DVDs and CDs
Of course it's not going to work! it's not compatible, either buy an external CD/DVD Drive. or replace your CD Drive with a DVD/CD Drive.

DV6000 Scratch sound with music CD's

hey, yes its very likely the dirty lens or the cd is scratched / dirty.

try a cd lens cleaner like this one, make sure its OK for computer use.

some of them are not ment for computers, the above one will do fine.

DVD/CD combo only reads DVDs

The virus and the Disck drive problem are not related. The disk drive has two lasers- one for CD one for DVD- one of the appears to have failed. Get hold of a CD drive cleaner. - this is a disk with a little brush on the underside and a bottle of fluid. try thats first. If that does not work then it is a new drive- unless you are happy to read only DVD's

DVD player sound

is the dvd a retail dvd, or a copied dvd? can you play music cd's ok? if the sound is stuttering, you may have too many other programs running. Check the systme tray amd close down all other apps and icons. most likely a problem with the laptop needing more memory to play the dvd. also try another dvd player like vlc or divx.com, or xvid.org for updated player codecs.
