I have the exact same problem and have used rechargable NiMh betteries. They ate 2000 mAh.

Should they be working with these batteries?

Someone once suggested maybe its the memory card? Any suggestions?

Hi,
I've actually had this problem myself.

Use NiMh bateries - and a standard plug-in charger for them. It works out cheaper than "proper" batteries for the camera, which is just a moulded block version of the same thing.

The camera monitors the battery level - and expects the results from NiMh. Stick to the mid range Ah, as the larger ones also cause problems.

Is it possible to charge my olympus fe-46 from my computer?

In a convoluted way. The FE-46 uses standard AA batteries. You may use either disposable alkaline or lithium batteries, or rechargeables. If you use rechargeables then you must charge them outside the camera. There are chargers that run from a computer USB port, and there are even AA batteries that plug into a USB port. However, you canNOT charge the batteries by connecting your camera to your computer.

I have Olympus FE-270, 7mp Camera. I bought it in 2007. I have a problem with that. since i bought the camera I can never manage to find out a battery supported with this camera. I used AA Camerlion...

You need to use rechargeable batteries only with your camera. Alkaline batteries, as you've discovered, do not sufficient power to run your camera and may only last for a small number of pictures. If you still have the user manual for your camera, you may dicover that it's also recommended in your manual to use these batteries. Modern rechargeable batteries have over 5 times more power than alkaline batteries. Here's some examples from Amazon. For international readers, here's some examples from Dealextreme. If you do decide to purchase, remember that you'll also need to purchase a charger with the batteries.

I use rechargeable batteries in my FE-35 and they are constantly showing up as empty. They show as full for about 30 secs and then they are shown as completely empty. It's very frustrating. Has anyone else...

This may not be so much an issue with the camera as much as a problem with the batteries. Since these are type "AA" battery packages, you should attempt to use them in another device - such as a small flashlight or other device that can operate on AA batteries.

If the batteries fail to to power the flashlight (or other test device) for more than 5 - 10 minutes after charging overnight (or as long as directed by the battery charger), the problem is with the batteries. It is very important that the batteries are charged properly. Properly means for for the required amount of time AND in the correct charger. There are different types of battery types: NiMh, NiCad, NiZN, Li-ion, etc. Using the wrong charger to charge the batteries could cause unpredictable results - or create a potentially dangerous condition. Additionally, some battery types develop a "memory" and can be responsible incomplete charging and rapid discharge. This happens if the initial charge is insufficient and the batteries are not completely discharged prior to recharging. It may be possible to recondition these batteries - but this size battery is relatively inexpensive, so replacement might be a better option.

If the batteries are working okay in the test device, then the problem may lie in the camera itself. Test the camera by installing fresh, AA alkaline batteries. If the camera rapidly discharges the alkaline batteries, it's a safe bet that the camera has a problem.

Please rate this reply if you found it helpful - good luck!

Hi, I have an Olympus fe130 and it keeps saying the batteries are dead when they are brand new. Any ideas? Thanks, Erica

The camera uses very common "AA" batteries, but infortunately AA batteries come in various "stengths", and the FE130 requires a very high strength AA battery- you may have a battery, that will fit in the camera, but just doesn't have the power for your camera, Also, the batteries may be "new" to you (you bought them recently), but they may have been on the store shelf too long (most "throw away batteries have Expiration dates on the package and sometimes on the bateries themselves- if they are still "in date"- have someone check them with a battery tester or voltmeter- if you don't have either of those- see if you have some other device ( a small flashlight) they might fit in to check- occassionally batteries go bad. There is also the possibility is that you purchased AA batteries that are rechargable, like NiCad, that don't have to be thrown away), but they need charging before they can be used, and regularly to keep their charge. If you tell us what the battery label says and any date info it might have we can probably know more.

Battery &charger specifications

In addition to the batteries provided with the camera, the following types of battery can be
used. Choose the power source best suited to the situation.
AA alkaline batteries/Oxyride batteries
The number of pictures that you can take may vary considerably depending on the battery
manufacturer and shooting conditions.
AA NiMH batteries (rechargeable batteries)
Olympus NiMH batteries are rechargeable and economical. For details, refer to the
instruction manual for your charger.
(Lithium battery packs (CR-V3) and AA manganese (zinc-carbon) batteries cannot
be used.
(Power consumption by the camera varies depending on which functions are used.
(Power is consumed continuously during the conditions described below causing batteries
to become exhausted quickly.
• The zoom is used repeatedly.
• The shutter button is pressed halfway repeatedly in shooting mode, activating the auto
focus.
• The monitor is left on for an extended period of time.
• The camera is connected to a computer or printer
(The battery life varies widely depending on the type of battery, manufacturer, shooting
conditions, etc. Because of this, there may be cases where the camera turns itself off
without displaying the battery level warning, or displays the battery level warning sooner than usual

Hi,
First check your warranty - you may be able to return it for repair under that - and yes it needs a repair. The metering system is now broken, The chances are you'll recieve a new one as it is more cost effective to them to do this. (keep the batteries)
