The PIP button on my 2405 has, through constant usage, become defunct as in I can't feel the micro switch behind it anymore when I pres it, actually the button is lopsided so I'm going to guess that the plastic post that normally connects with the micro switch behind is history. What are my options at this point?
If it's simply a plastic post problem then, is this a part that can be ordered up online? I'm not averse to running riot with a screwdriver, though some pointers on how to disassemble the frame to get at it wouldn't go amiss. I'm fairly sure the micro switch is ok and that it's simply the actuall plastic button thats at fault.
BTW for future products, it would have been nice if those buttons were available off an IR remote control 8/

You have dust on the micro switches on the front.You can resolve this by flicking the buttons on the front, or you could take it apart and clean the switches with a spray cleaner like wd40 through them making sure you mop up all the excess.
Any unit, this monitor, a TV a DVD etc that has front push type buttons can have this issue.
Behind each "button" is a tiny micro switch--the outer button activates it and it is a MOMENTARY switch which means when the outer button is released it should stop functioning.
If you follow this what likely is bad is the micro switch under that specific button.
The switch will feel fine and seem ok but it is activating inside and what ever it controls will act.
Two ways to prove/disprove this.
Gain access to the individual switch (mode in your case) and unsolder it from the board they are usually mounted into--get the unit up and on and see if the problem persists or not.
Second way, with the buttons accessed take a good ohm meter and read across the two typical pins for each switch---there should be not be a bit of a reading unless the switch is manually activated---I have seen ones reading 4000 ohms and even more or less--even with switch out of the circuit.
Even that resistance is enough to activate the switch.
Prove for yourself that I am either right or wrong in your case.
I have one of these that's now on its' way out but the problem you have is with dust build up on the micro switches on the front. The best way I can describe how I resolved this with mine is try flicking the buttons on the front, or if you're feeling adventurous, you could take it apart and clean the switches with a proprietry switch cleaner or blast a bit of wd40 through them making sure you mop up all the excess. Should give you about another 6 months or so from it.
I took my soldering iron and melted nylon-plastic to the plastic (nylon) ears and plastic button which is also nylon. I now have a permanent and stronger plastic weld than what was made at the factory. Repair shop wanted $125 dollars. I fixed it with weed-eater nylon string and soldering iron. Start at button first, after having a small glob of melted nylon on tip of iron. Then spread it to plastic ears, all the way back to the spot where ears attach to black trim piece. Good luck
I have the same monitor. I had the same problem you have. I couldn't find the correct replacement part so I improvised. The plastic part you refered to just activates a micro switch on the circuit board. In my case the micro switch worked just fine so I used 5 plastic buttons off of some ball point pens as a replacement. I took the monitor out of its plastic case and drilled holes in the front bezel directly over each of the 5 micro switches. I then put the buttons from the ball point pens in holes. So now the push buttons from the ball point pens act as a substitute for the broken part. I hope this helps.
There are tabs along the sides so you need to remove all screws and then use something like a screwdriver to pry it open... careful not to scuff the plastic. Anyhow the switch is probably fine and your main board is dead. There are several posts on the web about this issue, and mine had the same problem. Once I replaced the main board I found on ebay, it worked just fine.
