Instructional DVD My husband bought a Nikon F5 10 years ago and never learned to use it. Is there a DVD or Video that would help him? Can you recommend a book also? Thanks, Judy Struloeff jstruloeff@comcast.net

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

Which camera of canon KissX5 and Nikon D5100 would you recommend for a first time user?

Neither. For a first-time user I'd recommend something easier to learn to use, either a Canon Kiss X4 or a Nikon D3100 (not the D3200). You aren't really giving up any features, but getting something a bit easier to learn. And saving a little money.

In a year or so, when you're more comfortable with the camera then you might consider moving up to something more powerful. By then any current camera will have been superseded by something new.

Trying to decide between purchasing a Nikon D80 or 3100....any advice?

The D3100 is newer, for what it's worth. It has LiveView and video capabilities.

The D3100 is intended for beginners, the D80 for more experienced users. The D3100 is easier to learn, the D80 is easier to use once you learn it. The D3100 is lighter, the D80 is more rugged.

The other major difference is that the D3100 does not have an autofocus motor, depending on the lens to have one. This means that some lenses (those not designated AF-S by Nikon) will not autofocus on the D3100 while they will on the D80.

The ultimate decision is up to you. Only you can decide which features are most important to you. Also, if you can, try to get your hands on the actual cameras. See which one feels more comfortable to you.

Which book would be best for a beginner w/ the D3000 to learn the camera

There are a lot of good books. What's best for you would depend on many factors, including how much experience you have or don't have with photography in general and with other Nikons or SLRs.

Below are some recommendations. You might want to browse through a good bookstore and take a look at some of them.

David Busch, "David Busch's Nikon D3000 Guide to Digital SLR Photography"

Julie Adair King, "Nikon D3000 For Dummies"

Jeff Revell, "Nikon D3000 : From Snapshots to Great Shots"

Jon Sparks, "Nikon D3000: the Expanded Guide"

J. Dennis Thomas, "Nikon D3000 Digital Field Guide"

Darrell Young, "Mastering the Nikon D3000"

In addition, there is a free video tutorial on Nikon's web site:

I HAVE A MINTEK 5" (I THINK ) DVD PLAYER MODEL#5860....I CANT GET THE BATTERY OFF THE TOP OF THE UNIT....I RECIEVED NO INSTRUCTION BOOK(BOUGHT ON E-BAY)AND I NEED YER HELP.....THXS

I bought one at Best Buy for my daughter a few years ago. I'm glad I bought a psp for it to replace the battery.

They haven't had a good reputation. The consumer product safety comission recalled a battery from a unit they made three years ago after reports of it catching on fire. It was a different model than the one you have.

The model number should be a an MDP-5860.

Here is a source for batteries and power supplies for that model

Memorex television is not working with my new Phillips DVD/VCR combo

depending on how you hooked it up; if thru coax cable the you have to use channel 3 or 4 on the tv to use Philips. If you are connecting with video and audio cables then you have to select a/v input on tv to use.

Nikon d70s novice

I'm the same of you, only I went for the D40.
One general photography book that seems to be recommended by a lot of people is Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson (ISBN13: 978-0817463007 or ISBN10: 0817463003)
I've just bought a copy, so will comment with my own opinions later if you want :)

Can't really comment on D70-specific books I'm afraid.
