Enabling VGA Port

I can't seem to enable the VGA port on my Toshiba laptop. It is less than a year old and running Vista. Everytime I go to display settings, the primary monitor is enabled. I guess I don't know what to do to get the number 2 monitor going. Please help.

To use VGA port on your laptop, you have to press the FN key and the corresponding key to switch the output to the vga port (usually F4, but could be something else, look on your F keys and see shich one has a picture of a monitor on it).

How to mirror my toshiba satellite laptop using vga out port to my pioneer tv using hdmi port

You will need a converter from VGA to HDMI from any of on-line stores. However, my experience, none are perfect by design. VGA has less 'definition' than HDMI. You will not get 1080.

Toshiba satellite C855D-S5105 HDMI

For the Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5105, HDMI is an option.

If present, believe it to be on the Left side, same as the VGA port.

[General example of VGA connector (Port), and VGA Cable,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_Connector

Note* Color is not always Blue. Scroll down a little for VGA Cable example ]

User Manual states plug external monitor device into laptop, then turn external monitor device on.
External monitor device should automatically be seen by laptop.

If not press, and hold down on the Fn key, and at the same time, tap on the F4 key until the display option you want is shown. Then press the Enter key.

Touchscreen?
That requires a knowledge of Windows 8, which I do not have a full understanding of yet. The User Interface of Windows 8.

It isn't stated by Toshiba, (At least that I could find), as to if the HDMI port; is just that. An HDMI port, or a Mini-Port HDMI port,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:HDMI_Connector.jpg

There are HDMI adapters, and HDMI cables; that adapt from regular HDMI to Mini-Port HDMI.

There are adapters that connect to a VGA port, and convert to an HDMI port.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY VGA PORT IS ENABLED?

Press, and hold down on the Fn key, and AT THE SAME time tap once on the F5 key.

The F5 key is the Display Toggle-Over key.

Still no?
There are at least 3 display options;
1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY.
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external VGA monitor
3) External VGA monitor ONLY

Hold the Fn key down again, and tap once more on the F5 key.

OK, mini display port to VGA adapter-is the VGA cord the one that goes into the port labeled RGB and audio on the back of the Samsung? Sorry to be a dummy but Samsung monitor is 6 years old and has always...

An RGB port is for a component cable not a VGA cable. A VGA cable, similar to a component cable, only carries a video signal but is a 15 pin cable that nearly all monitors and HDTVs support. Most laptops have a VGA out port.
You should be able to connect your laptop to almost any monitor (not sure about your Samsung) with a male to male VGA cable.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa.

No input from Acer Laptop

Hi,
In most cases this problem is cured by enabling the external VGA (or monitor) ouput on the laptop. The quickest way is to reboot the laptop with the projector turned on and connected. Usually the laptop will detect an external display is attached and enable the port.
It is also possible to manually enable the external display port. It varies from laptop to laptop but look for the "Fn" key at the bottom left of the keyboard, usually coloured green or blue. You should see a row of icons on the top row of "F" keys which is in the same colour. Look for the one which is either an icon which could be a monitor, or possibly says LCD or CRT.
Hold down the Fn key and press the key you located in the last step. There is usually a delay of a few seconds and then you'll find something may happen. Usually the external output will be turned on alongside the local (laptop) display. Repeatedly following the last step cycles through all available configuration options, including both on, local on, local off, external on, and external off.
This should fix it. Make sure that the correct input is selected on the projector whilst doing this. It will be labelled on the projector and it should display the same input message on screen.

How to connect Acer 55610-4491 with Sony Braveria Ex 400 TV?

the connection is possible only if the Tv has a VGA plug ...or if you want to use a hdmi cable ..make sure that the laptop has a hdmi exit..
For hdmi the connection is made directly in the hdmi 1 port ..choose the port into the tv ..and after that open the display properties..or the setting in the video driver ..and enable ..the clone display for moth monitors... This way you will have same image on both .. The sound has to be enabled separately ..from the sound manager in control panel..(enable digital sound)
If you use the parallel port vga..on th eside...than it will work right the way ..or you will have to press Fn+F4 key to enable the second monitor option ..(this can be also enabled from the video driver settings..
In this case he sound will be on the old way on the computer 's speakers..

How to conect my laptop to LCD

It depends on the laptop connections. First make sure that your computer is sending data to the port (particularly VGA); you may have to access the BIOS to change the setting (often F1 or F2 on restart). If you have a VGA port on the laptop, get a video cable (VGA-VGA) and connect the two together (this is usually a blue port and you need M/M ends). Then enable in the graphics properties (right click on the display where there are no icons or running program). You want the section that lets you choose sending to the external monitor, the laptop monitor or showing the same contents on both. The version of your OS may alter which command you need (you can also access this in the Control Panel (Display). You may need to restart the computer with the TV on to get the computer to recognize the TV. Set the TV to have the source the PC input. Also connect the speaker cable from the laptop to the TV if you want to use the TV's speakers (there is an audio port next to the VGA port that I believe is a 3.5 mm jack (would need a stereo 3.5 mm m/m cable between the two). Make sure you select the optimum resolution of 1360 x 768.

If you have an HDMI port on the laptop (newer laptops), get an HDMI cable (m/m) and connect the two. Set the TV to DVI or HDMI source (depending on if you need the audio cables separate) and reboot the computer. Then enable the display, as above. I believe you still need the audio cable as well (should use a 3.5 mm stereo to RCA R/L (red/white) cable) look for the DVI audio next to the HDMI/DVI port.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(my understanding is that computer HDMI ports do not send the audio but you should check your laptop manual.)

VGA driver for toshiba A135-S4527

Toshiba does not provide XP drivers for this laptop. Installing all the updates from the Windows Update site did a lot of the drivers for me. HOWEVER, Windows Update will misdiagnose the display adapter. It will try to install a driver for the Intel 945GM but it must be some generic 945GM driver, because it will not give you full functionality (e.g., multiple display outputs, etc). Use the method I describe below to get the correct 945GM driver for this display adapter.

=====================================================
Hardware and drivers needed to run Win XP Pro on Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527
==============================================================
Run "infinst_autol.exe". This is an Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility (now called Intel Chipset Device Software I think). It will identify and load the proper driver files (.inf) for various things. I did this at the end last time, but if done near the beginning, it might take care of things like display adapter, etc. Check Intel's site for the most updated one. Go to http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/

Display adapter is Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family
Driver was named win2k_xp14182.exe. I downloaded it initially from
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/deta...1&dwnldid=9683
&agr=n&lang=eng&prdmap=2301

Mouse is Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad
Driver file was called XP_2K.8.3.4.zip. Can be downloaded from the Synaptics website.

Wireless adapter is Atheros AR5006EG
Driver can be gotten from Windows Update (or maybe the Win Vista CD too)

Ethernet adapter is Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
Driver can be gotten from Windows Update (or maybe the Win Vista CD too)

Modem is Toshiba Software modem
Driver can be gotten from Win Vista CD.

During XP installation, drivers were automatically loaded for:
- multimedia card reader
- firewire port (IEEE 1394)
- DVD/CD drive

I hope this gets your laptop up and running.

Please rate my solution,

Eric

VGA hookup to my Toshiba Satellite

Set the TV input to PC (that's ViewSonic's term for the VGA port).

Setting the computer to output to the PC may depend on your OS (XP, Vista). Reboot the computer after connecting the monitor and see if new hardware is found. Reboot again if you have a flickering screen. In Vista, right clicking on the desktop brings up various video and desktop options. Choose Screen Resolution and look for the multiple monitors line. Click Apply and OK after setting your desired output. In the Screen Resolution window you should see two monitor boxes (labeled 1 and 2) if the computer sees the monitor.

If the second monitor is not showing up (no new hardware found), check your BIOS and device drivers to see if you need to enable or update the drivers for the VGA port. Check your manual for the BIOS (often it is click F1 or F2 before the OS loads; it's often tricky timing and I have to try repeatedly). Device manager will have a red x if the port is disabled; the exclamation point (yellow triangle) indicates driver issues.

I realize this is nearly a year after you posted your questions but I hope it will help the next person searching for answers on this TV.
