Locked? There is a small tab on the card that slides into the "lock" or "unlock" position.

If you mean "stuck" then you should realize the to remove the card you push it in until it clicks and pops out.

Try reformatting the card. If it won't reformat in the camera, use a PC and set it for FAT or FAT32
not NTFS

How do I open the camera to load the batteries?

Hi

The Canon PowerShot A510 has a battery cover on the bottom of the camera. There is a battery cover lock on the compartment which needs to be unlocked. Holding the camera upside down with the battery compartment closest to your body the left hand AA battery is placed into the camera Postitive up - with the right hand AA the opposite.

Hope this helps

What is the maximum size of an SD card that can be used in a Canon PowerShot A510?

You can use any size SD card. Just keep in mind that SD cards max out at 2GB; any larger cards are actually SDHC cards and will not work in the A510.

My camera says (card locked) what do I need to do?

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

I have inserted a new PNY optima SC HC memory card and window in camera says "memory card error". Does the canon not take this card?

Correct. The A510 uses SD cards, not SDHC cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work.

Can't format memory card in A510 Canon digital camera.

Have you used this card in the past? Is this a new card?

Is this card rated to be used with this camera. Some cameras can only support cards of certain sizes.

If the card is compatible, take the card to target or best buy and format it on a camera there and see if it works then put it back in your camera and see if it works after.

Card locked

Remove the card from the camera. Slide the tiny switch on the side of the card to the other "unlocked" position. Reinsert the card and try it out.
