Try a System Restore and select a restore date before your problems started. To get to the System Restore - Click on Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore
If you can get in to do a system restore then there is still hope. However this could take a very long time for even an experianced computer technician to fix. Cause is most likely spyware or a virus, OR some anti-spyware programs. The fastest solution is to reinstall windows with the repair option. If that doesnt work just reinstall windows.
Take the battery out and only have the adaptor hooked up to the laptop, then try to a fresh install of Windows XP and see if it goes thru. If it does then your battery is the culprit.
Try booting with your windows xp installation cd in the drive. See if it will give you a repair or restore option when doing this. If it does not then it's possible your computer has a virus. You can check this by booting up with your anti virus cd in the drive and let it do a system scan. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.
