The shutter does not close

My younger bro used an ordinary duracell battery to function the camera. But once the power was switched on, it quickly lost all its power and the lens which springs up when the power is on, refuses to shut back, even when a battery with full power (rechargeable battery) is inserted in. The camera is at present stuck with its lens still open. Please help.
