Your best bet on purchasing a hard drive is at pricewatch.com, most places will charge you almost double what you can get one there for. Buy the hard drive first, then, if you don't feel confident in changing it out and reinstalling the operating system yourself, take it to a small computer shop in your area. They will charge you a reasonable price for installation. Don't take it to Bestbuy, the Geek Squad is outrageous on their prices, plus they'll try to sell you more "stuff" you really don't need.

Hi,
Generally speaking, we have two types of hard disk interface. IDE (the old one with ribbon cable) and SATA (with a 1cm strip like cable).
As your new hard disk is SATA, you need a SATA cable to connect it to you PC.

if you are having trouble with your drivers
here is a general look at the drivers and how to update them
if your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver hope this helps

Leila, repairing a hard drive or replavcing it in a laptop is difficult due the the number of screws and bits and pices one has to remove to get to it. I suggest you take it to a computer specialist that deals with the brand of laptop near you New disk varies depending on size but average about$160.00 and min 2 hrs labor @ $90 and hour. The decision is is it cheaper to upgrade than repair?

Try formatting it first. If it is not possible to format this way, try to format the drive from the command prompt
Start - Run - type 'cmd' . once inside the command prompt, type the command format drive: where drive is the drive letter

Reinstalling windows on new hard drive

Place the windows cd in the drive and re-boot.You should be prompted to press any key to boot from the cd.After that,just follow the on-screen instructions.It's really pretty simple!Hope this helps!
