Onkyo 870 relay problem?

I have a onkyo tx 870 that keeps turning on and off when i push the a and b speakers button and push the power button i hear and feel the 2 relays click on and off and the unit does this 3 times in a row and then shuts off. is there a way i can jump the relays or do i have to replace them and where can i get those relays. if i dont have the buttons a and b pushed in and then power it up it doesnt shut off or cycle. but when i push the speaker buttons it turns on and off 3 times and then shuts off.

    I have the same problem

I have same problem with my tx-890. It does not matter if I have it hooked up to speaker a or b. When I turn on the power there is a slight delay before I hear a click then the receiver cycles on and off.

If I do not have speaker a or b buttons depressed it will stay on but as soon as I press either speaker button it clicks on and off.

I'm debating should I get it fixed or replaced.

I have an Onkyo TX-870 that does the same thing, will play fine on A or B , but not A&B. I have doubled the cables into A so that I can pay 4 speakers at 4 ohms and it has worked just fine for a long time now. This proves that it is not a current issue causing the shut down. I have also cleaned the A,B switch to no avail, so if you want to run 4 8ohm speakers, do as I did and double them in the A connectors. This amp is 4ohm capable and mine has been running cool for several months now and sounds great. In fact I think it really opened up at 4ohms and runs better. The only sad thing is if you set your speakers up for different room zones, you're out of luck. Try it though, I think you'll like the sound @ 4ohms better, Paul

TX-SR504 receiver won't turn on

Had same on an ONKYO TX-505 given to me for repair - eventually found a broken track on top circuit board that came from a transistor that control the main power on relay - looked like it was burnt off for a section of about 1.2mm

Repaired the track and has worked ever since

good luck WTech/Townsville

Onkyo TX-SR 606 KEEPS CLICKING INSTEAD OF TURNING ON WHEN POWERED

Here are your options:

1. An electrical problem, where your receiver has a grounding problem.
2. Your speaker wire connections are actually touching each other and that's why your receiver is not turning on.

Power light on, unit will not turn on with push button

When power was intermittant, were there any other discrepencies or audible power deprivation to the speakers? Your problem has many possibilites from fuses to major amplifier problems to common power supply failures. Being intermittant then dead may still be a simple fix, but not without some physical intervention of test gear. Sorry, Jaszy
