Fan making noise help

Fan error message on start up.. how do I resolve this? thanks...

Start by taking the machine apart, cleaning the fan, and checking the connection. The failure may be due to debris buildup or a loose connection, and I've also seen fans stop working because a hair has gotten wound in them. If it still doesn't work properly after cleaning, then it will need to be replaced. Here's a link that has breakdown diagrams and instructions, this should help.

My computer is not working....i am stuck in windows system32 drivers disk.sys when i try the safe mode...and the installation stops and just turn into black... can anyone help me ragarding this problem?...


If computer does not start normally, use this checklist to identify specific symptoms and take the recommended corrective actions to resolve the problems.Perform a Hard Reset Do these actions first to clear all temporary setting before troubleshooting the problem.Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain residual charge

  • Count number of blinking LEDs or beeping tones to help with diagnostics testing.
  • Contact HP for technical assistance. There are no other user-initiated troubleshooting actions until error codes are resolved.
Symptom 3: LEDs glow, fan noise may be heard briefly, display remains black, and computer fails to startup or boot Usually occurs if a component is installed incorrectly, or there is a device conflict or failure.
  • Connect an external monitor to check if the problem is the built-in LCD display or graphics card.
  • Remove all CD/DVDs, SD cards, USB devices, peripherals and do a Hard Reset .
  • If memory or hard drive components were replaced, reinstall original components.
  • Remove memory modules and replace one-at-a-time.
  • Remove and reseat hard drive.

I get an error message on start up on the desktop screen. invalid command line parameter ... mapinfo data installer. i had to add/remove 'office' due to a hard drive replacement. why do i get this error...


This is due to an Operating System File was removed during the uninstall of Office. The only way to resolve this issue is by formatting the Hard Drive and reinstalling windows. I hope this helps

I have a laptop sony vayo . it was working fine till started to make a shrieking noise . i turn it off ( from the start button -the only way it worked ) and then tried to turn it on . the screen remain...


Check the fan on the bottom and make sure nothing is in it. Then press and hold the power button for 30sec.. Then turn the laptop back on once it starts, press F5 during the bootup to run diag

Funny noise(like a typewriter) coming from hp dv2019ea


Clicking is usually caused by your HDD (harddrive), system fan, or your CD/DVD drive as they are normally the only mechanical devices inside a computer. On a laptop it is common for the HDD to produce a clicking noise as it may have developed a fault whilst being moved. If you listen and it sounds like the HDD is clicking then you need to backup all of your data immediately and replace the HDD with a new one as the HDD could die at any time.
If it sounds like the fan is clicking then clean it and check there is no debris or cables hitting it.
If your CD/DVD drive is making the noise then replacing it should resolve the problem.

Thank you for your query

You are right when the laptop first starts up it is the fan, if you are getting error message then it is the heat sink (fan on top of cpu) that will need to be replaced.

I would only recommend changing it if you know how as getting to the motherboard is quite tricky to say the least

Please dont listen to the geeks at bestbuy, they obviously dont know what they are talking about

I was using my laptop when it threw up a message to turn it off then the screen went a green colour then blank.I have since tried to start it again but it is only making a funny noise.It is only 10 weeks...


I could go into a long explanation of how to troubleshoot the laptop but if it's only ten weeks old... take it back. if the noise you hear is like a ticking noise the hard drive may have quit.

"Fan error" error message


Have you had ur laptop for a while? If so it could be dust build-up, but when ever I came across a fan error it was usually due to the fan dieing out. Can you hear the fan at any point or is there no sound at all. If the fan is making no sound then you wont be getting much out of your laptop. Ive done more repairs for desktop fans and such, but laptop one might be a little more tricky to remove. Best thing to do if your not handy with this area is bring it to a computer repair shop. If the computer is new enough and still under warranty you should notify the warranty company of your problem.

the clacking noise could be coming from the fan blades touching the main frame .
have a look and see if the cooling fan is rotating properly and not making noises

I have to hit the f1 key to continue the bootup process. Then I get a defective fan error message, but the fan is running, becasue I can hear it.


there may be more than one fan-- there also is a setting in the BIOS to disable the fan warning if you are SURE that the fan it is monitoring is working correctly.
