Question about Canon PowerShot SD400 / IXUS 50 Digital Camera

Dropped SD400 - buttons no longer work

I dropped my camera and now it will only take pictures. I can't press any of the buttons nor can I download my pictures. My computer does not recognize the camera as being connected. I can turn on and off and take all the pictures I want, I just can't view them or do anything else really. Is a camera repair shop my only option?

Not only is a repair shop your only option, you'll probably find it will cost nearly as much to fix than to buy a more recent model.

There are three really weak spots in the SD400 and most small digital cameras: the lens mechanism, the battery door, and the built-in lens shade. Care in closing the battery door so you don't break off the little lugs that hold it shut - using a neck strap so you don't drop the camera - and making sure no sand or grit gets into the lens cap mechanism will make your next camera last a lot longer.

How to use self timer in Can Sd400

Press the timer button until the clock symbol is displayed. Point the camera at your subject and take a shot as you normaly would. As soon as the second switch on the shutter button is pressed, the 10 second countdown will begin. A yellow lamp will flash every half a second until the last second where it will remain lit and then take the picture.

Canon Powershot SD400 won't upload pics to computer

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Only black spots on screen I dropped it

It seems that the LCD screen is cracked. You can find replacement screens for CANON cameras here:

place your camera in a hot press, or where your boiler is, on shelf and it might dry out in a day or two, then try it again.

CANON POWERSHOT SD400

The E18 error is fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for about 50% of lens errors, but they're worth a try:

Dropped camera-two corners dark

Check what the actual pictures look like when they are downloaded to PC or to print. The problem may only be on the screen. It may be very expensive to replace the screen, but you might be able to live with it?

Good Luck

Droped my camera

Either you take it to a repair shop and ask them if they think they could rig you with an improvised button, or you contact canon and ask them how much would it be to have a new button fitted in. I would first try to find out if the camera has recieved any more damage when it was dropped. it might not be worth to spend money on fixing just the button. Good luck
