Panasonic Receiver SA-XR25

I have a problem with the audio. I have component cable connections, as well as optical audio connection.

The sound will be fine for a day or so then suddenly starts popping, cracking, etc. Once the receiver is turned off/on the problem goes away. This happens intermittently although sometimes it happens several times in a period of hours, ie. when listening to the radio. The receiver is about 3 or 4 yrs old.

Any suggestions?

I thought it might be heat related, so I put a small battery operated fan behind the receiver, and voila, no more clicking. I just have to invest in rechargable batteries or an electric fan.
