Cruise control My cruise control won't work on my 1988 Cadillac Brougham. I bought it a few months ago and when I first started driving it but after a couple days it stopped. At first it almost seemed like it would try to work but then it would "slip." Has anyone had that problem and fixed it?

The Cruise Red Control Power Light AND Green Engaged lights both come on, but the CC does not "take hold." If I open the hood and squeeze the big rubber bladder, the engine speeds up.

    Where is the problem?

Chirping sound on 1988 cadillac brougham as I drive it. Already replaced everything on wheel.

Check the disc brake pad thickness ( both sides of each rotor ) there is a small metal bit that when the pads are unsafe the bit scratches on the rotor to let you know to replace the pads.

How to fix the cruise control - won't hold speed!

Could be the problem; however it is more likely to be under the hood where the cruise actuator is located - check the electrical connections on the actuator and the linkage between the actuator and the accelerator lever on the engine. Also, if the cruise control uses a diaphragm to control the accelerator, it may be leaking or the vacuum line to it may have fallen off - check the vacuum at the actuator with the engine running.

Looks like I have a vaccum problem on my 1990 Cadilac Brougham 5.7L: Cruise control not working (but all lights work correctly), no automatic parking brake release and no air at dashboard outlets. I...

Usually you can follow the hissing noise. Any noise inside the car? Near the brake pedal where the cruise cutoff vacuum switch is? If not, start at the throttle body. The main line runs from there to the vacuum storage canister. See diagram below.

I just bought a 1988 Cadillac Brougham now i would like to fix a few electric things that don't work. Those are the interior lights the automatic door locks and the radio makes strange cracking noises....

the cracking noise in the radio sounds like a ground wire being on loose...the interior lighjts run off a fuse located under the dash next to your hood latch

I have a 1988 cadillac brougham and i cannot get my alternator to work i bought new ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY AND BATTERY KEEPS GOIN DEAD

sounds like you have a bad wire or short in the wire that runs from your battery to your alternator. you should have a connector on it which is plugging into the voltage regulator. I had the same thing happen with my 86 Camaro a few years ago

Is there are light or gauge for temp. in a 1988 Cadillac Brougham

If you do not have a guage in the instrument cluster then it is going to be a light. The light will be red or orange and shaped like a little thermostat. When you turn the key to the on position it should iluminate briefly before starting the car. If it does not then you may have bulb out in the cluster.

Cruise control switch works sporatically.

Faulty product. I install cruise control for 6 years. One of the cables are hooked into the throttle and the other in the vaccuum actuator, since it is electronically controlled actuator, the object itself might be losing it's contents or frankly worded, is taking a nose dive. works much like a brake booster does.

Is it a PID system? (Proportional integral derivative system)
or is it just standard proportional?

That will play a factor.

If you just have one of those cheesy controls (cruise controls), than replace it, obviously it wouldnt of cost much. if it is not, check the actuator and replace it! Replace the Fuse, brush it with wire brush, clean up all connections.
You should be ready to roll!

Good Luck.
