I need help in setting up my VCR player to my DVD recorder

You should be able to connect the video and audio outputs of a VCR (look for a yellow plug labeled VIDEO OUT and a white (or a white and red if it's a stereo VCR) plug labeled AUDIO OUT on your VCR to the same colored jacks on your DVD recorder labeled VIDEO and AUDIO IN. You'll need an RCA patch cable that has yellow, red, and white plugs-they're readily available at just about any store that sells electronics (Walmart, Best Buy, Target, etc.) and should cost less than $10. Don't let them upsell you to the expensive cables-you're probably not going to notice a difference.

Once you're hooked up, just hit "play" on your VCR and "record" on your DVD recorder, and you should be good.

Dvd recorder cuts out on play back

Most playback issues on your DVD Player can be related to most/all of these:

1- Cheap disc Quality or dusty lens(use cleaning disc) or cheap or old used burner.
2- Burned too fast
3- Burned too close to the edge of the media
4- Use DVD-R media on older DVD Players or use DVD+R and booktype them to DVD-ROM

5- Do not stick labels on your media

A) Use quality media:

- Taiyo Yuden (Media ID: TYGx, YUDENT)
- Verbatim (Media ID: MCC, MKM)
- Maxell Made In Japan (Media ID: MXLRG0x)

One of the worse media on the market, if not the worse, are made by CMC Magnetics Inc.

Media ID: CMC Mag.

Keep away from Memorex media, lots of us will call those MemoSux

I also read someone call them LandFill, it says it all !

Here are 2 good sites, to learn about media quality, and what media id to look for:

Hi i got a vhs/ dvd recorder from a friend who upgraded, but dont have a manual,i have set it up to my portable tv upstairs, which has a set top box,but dont really know if i have the cables right. the...

Hello Audrey,

If you can watch the videos on the TV, your cables are correct, but you don't generally record a video to DVD using the record button. Most VCR/DVD combinations have a DUBBING button on the front of the player and/or the remote control for copying from one to the other.

Additionally, some players can only record from video to DVD, some can only record from DVD to video and others will do both. On players that can do both, you need to instruct the player whether you want to record from video to DVD or vice-versa.

If you can le me know the model number of the player, I can let you know which recording options are available on your player, how to record and (hopefully) supply a new manual which you can download and print. The model number may be on the front of the player, but usually these are found on a label on the back of the player.

Regards,
BElectric.
