Hello Kikoksky,

I saw your solution regarding CD/DVD drive (http://www.fixya.com/support/r685007-no_longer_access_cd_drive_or_dvd_drive) but wanted to ask if you would send me a description of this solution that would allow me to check to see if your recommendation is already set up on my pc. My external CD-RW/DVD drive was working for a while then I plugged it, did not use if for a while and when I plugged it back into PC, it is not working. I tried differenct USB ports, unplugging and pulling battery out of the drive, and checking the driver...all seem to have no impact. My PC can see the Drive (it appears in Win Explorer), I can Eject it from Win Explorer OR by pushing the button on the drive itself.

Is there anything you can think of that would allow me to test to see if it is a hardware or software issue?

Thanks - Don

- Hi Mark,

Tried your suggestion and it did not work.
When I did a update to the driver, it said I had the most recent version on my PC. Not sure if the that meant the most recent AVAILABLE or simply the one I was using is the the most current that I have on my PC.

Anyway, I Un-installed the device and restarted the PC. The system saw the drive, re-installed the driver and said that it was good to go.....except that it is still not working. I can not eject (open) it from WinExplorer or by pushing the button on the front.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks much.

Here is a suggestion.
1. Go to start menu, right click on My computer.
2. scroll down and click on properties.
3. at the top of the box click on the hardware tab, then devices.
4. Find your drive in the list of devices.
5. If you see your device right click on it and click on update drivers.
6. If it comes back stating the drivers are up to date thats fine.
7. the next step is only if you have the current driver on hand.
8. Un-install the device from the computer.
9. Reboot you computer with the device attached and see if the computer recognizes it. if it does insert you disk in the drive and follow the install procedures.I f this does not work let me know we will go from there...Take care.. Be mucho blessed..Mark

here are the things you can do:
try this first:
Step 1: Start Registry Editor loadTOCNode(3, 'resolution'); Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. Registry Editor starts.
Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry loadTOCNode(3, 'resolution'); 1. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. 2. Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet. 3. Expand Control, and then expand Class. 4. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. 5. In the right pane (topic area), click UpperFilters.

Note An UpperFilters.bak registry entry may also appear. To delete the UpperFilters registry entry, you must click UpperFilters and not UpperFilters.bak. 6. On the Edit menu, click Delete. 7. When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the UpperFilters registry entry: Are you sure you want to delete this value? The UpperFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.
then locate the lower filter if listed and delete it also. then restart your computer. if it is still not seen at your my computer after the restart try doing this
always restart computer every after update is installed one by one
1. try to update the driver of your cd/dvd drive
2. try to update the bios of your motherboard
3. try to update the chipset driver of your motherboard as well
4.
