Sony digital camera shutter/lens setting - Digital Cameras

To be more specific, the camera turns on, shows all the features with setup settings etc., but when placed on camera to take pictures, it goes blank, shows no image of any kind, and the lens will not open, and the camera turns off immediately. When pressing the power button, it beeps but does not turn on. Is there a setting marker for the lens gear, and if so, what is it, and where is it? Thanks.

Could you also post me the model of your sony camera.

You may have to send this in for service, but we can try a reset - will need to know the model first.

I will be able to provide better answers ones I know the model / camera we are talking about.

here are a few repair places I can recommend you in advance.

Do you have a error message? I guess not?

Try the reset button, it will reset the settings date time and others.

if a reset doesn't solve it

then, theres a fault in the camera, and when the problem happens - eg lens wont extend mechanism stuck or broken. it flashes a red light or beeps etc (depends on model) and shuts off.

You have to send this one in for service Im afraid.

And to make sure that we are not missing a simple settings I went and got the manual.

If you feel that it may be a setting somewhere, you can have a look in the manual, I had a quick check and didn't find anything special.

But the camera turning off instantly alone is not normal and would indicate a problem.

Also check with sony / your dealer incase you still have warranty on the camera.

Why does my Shutter locks when taking picture

Sir,
This is a common fault in such models. carefully open the back cover and bottom of your camera thus you can find the shutter opening gears and related parts. with the help of a needle apply some silicon grease on this gears let it free by rotating the parts then fix the covers it will work properly, check the condition of the battery in some cases weakness of the battery also cause this

When I open the lens, the screen is dark and displays no image of the object I want to photograph

If you see the display information on modes - but no images of the object and the photos are black - for two reasons:
1. Defective matrix camera (CCD). Require replacement of the matrix, setting the camera after replacement - the setting is only able to engineer Sony service center.
2. Does not work in the camera shutter - to replace or repair the unit shutter in the lens. Repair is possible at any repair workshop of digital technology.
3. If you do not see any picture on the screen - the display is damaged camera - needed to be replaced.

The exact cause and complete diagnosis is possible only after the removal of the camera.

Sony dsc-w190 won't turn on

The system control board has shut the camera down to prevent damage, the lens housing will need to be replaced because you have two problems, one the lens is jammed and second the shutter is open, the cost to repair will be equal if not more than a new one.

A700 flashing "lens" message

Is the lens switched to manual as well as the mode dial. If the compatable lens is a minolta requiring an M42 adapter make sure that the protruding arm/rod is operating the shutter when depressed and that the adapter when fitted operates the lens when turned from auto to manual. Good luck.

Poor focus

Are you using a DX lens. Do you know if you have the camera's auto focus set to AF (auto focus) or M (manual)? There are many things that effect the focus and as an added note, any shots over 1/60 shutter speed in normal light should be in focus without the need of a tripod.

I shoot a D80 and a D70 and I have excellent results and very clear pictures, I'd be will to bet that either your lens is incompatible with the camera or it's just a setting. I'd be happy to help if you could give more info to your settings.

Lens adaptor

The good news is that it is possible to get the camera to operate with the lens & adapter :-)

The bad news is that you'll only be able to use it in manual mode :-(

To get the camera(s) to actually fire, you will need to change some settings.

For the Maxxum 7:

Go to Custom settings (No.16) and change to 'Lock Off'.

For Maxxum 7D

Go to the settings menu (purple cog icon) and then to sub-menu 3. Change Shutter lock to Off.

With the camera set to Manual mode, you can still use the built-in meter. Half-press the shutter button and you will see a metering scale appear in the viewfinder. This will indicate whether the shutter/aperture setting you've selected will over/under-expose the image. Adjust your settings until the indicator bar is over the zero.

Hope this helps,

Matt.

PS. Even if you could somehow modify the adapter, the lens won't have the necessary electrical and mechanical coupling for the cameras to control it in an automatic mode.
