Question about Kenmore 24.8 cu. ft. TRIO Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Freezer working but refigerator not...

I have a 2004/5 Kenmore Trio bottom freezer refrigerator. The model # is 596.75523400. The problem I'm having is that the refrigerator portion of the unit is not cooling any longer. The Freezer portion however continues to operate properly. The only other symptom I can offer is that the 'vertical mullion' on the left hand refrigerator door is warm/hot to the touch, which I find very strange. Clearly something is broken and needs to be replaced, but have no idea what or where to start. Obviously, am hoping you can tell me offer any advice on whether there are further diagnostics necessary or better yet let me know what parts need to replaced. I would also like to know how challenging the repair will be and whether it will require any special tools. Regards, Fred (

Thanks very much for your reply!

So I just had my son check and 'yes' there is frost on the back of the freezer. So it looks like your suspicion is correct.

With that said, what do I do now? I presume I need to clean the frost off of the back, but otherwise how do 'de-frost' the freezer coil? Also, how do I access the freezer coil.

Guess the next question is once I 'de-frost' how do I prevent from happening again. Are there parts that should be replaced or do I simply need to do a better job of maintaining.

Thanks very much for your help.

We are having the same problem with our Kenmore Trio model # 596.76509500 - this am it was up to 65 degrees and the freezer seems to be in the minuses. Yesterday a sparkling cider blew in there so I thought it was that. We have stripped everything out of it and cleaned inside, underneath, behind, etc. We just followed the advice from the previous page and took the wall from the inside of the freezer out and the top half of the viens are iced over - we are going to unplug to thaw. We didn't see a timer for the defroster - we saw a circuit board. Anything else we can do?

Mullion heater is not the problem. If the refrigerator is not cooling look to the freezer compartment for your problem. Air from the freezer is used to cool the refrigerator(s) section. If the freezer coil frosts up it stops air circulation to the rest of the system. Although you may think the freezer is working properly it may have a defrost problem and will show up there also. Look for signs of frost on the back wall of the freezer as a sign of the coil freezing. The mullion heater is designed to put out just enough heat to stop condensation between the outside temperatures and the inner compartmant temperatures. If the inner compartment is warm the heater will seem warmer than normal.

In the defrost system there are three items in the circuit. A timing device, a defrost heater, and a defrost thermostat. If you can locate the defrost timer, turn the clutch head screw clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one audible click. This puts the defrost into its mode, Wait about 25 minutes and if the refrigerator starts cooling again you must look further into the system for your problem. If it does defrost and does not restart, turn the clutch head screw clockwise again until you hear a second audible click. The refrigerator will restart cooling and it is the timer that is bad. Replace the timer in this case.

If the above procedure does not bring a defrost you must remove all shelves from the freezer compartment. then remove the back wall. Inside the back wall are the defrost heaters and defrost thermostat. Defrost heaters can be checked for continuity with an Ohm meter. If you have no reading through the heater(s) they are bad. Replace the heaters. If you get a reading through the heaters check the defrost thermostat and replace if necessary.

Crisper draws are freezing produce. Kenmore Trio 795.77562.600

If you can find the duct work behind the draws you might find an air control, if you have a contract with Sears - you can call them back, the part that was replaced has a Garn.T and or 30 days on service, when you ajust the temps it may sometime act up but has a default and will return to that. Cold air drops down. read the manual that came with the Refrig. Buying a service contract might be the best thing for piece of mind - Sears covers everything, even plactic and paint ( scratches). most everything is plastic in the refrigerators today and are very expensive, 3 doors allow more air into the unit then a 2 door because of the seal between the doors, just 2 pieces of rubber overlapping .
Act on this as fast as you can, 30 days on service goes fast and a service call runs about 75 dollars . Oh ! don't put wet veggies in draw and rap everything with Plastic wrap, veggies only least about 4 /5 days then become soft and lose taste and color.

Hello bigmikeegator

You said, you have the Kenmore Elite Trio Bottom Freezer. You moved your refrigerator to a new home and removed the bottom freezer door, but can not seem to figure out exactly how to put it back on correctly.

It's too much for me to tell you myself.
This is easier!
Page 9 shows you how to remove and reinstall doors.

Thank you,
