Question about Kenmore 24.8 cu. ft. TRIO Bottom Freezer Refrigerator
I have a 2004/5 Kenmore Trio bottom freezer refrigerator. The model # is 596.75523400. The problem I'm having is that the refrigerator portion of the unit is not cooling any longer. The Freezer portion however continues to operate properly. The only other symptom I can offer is that the 'vertical mullion' on the left hand refrigerator door is warm/hot to the touch, which I find very strange. Clearly something is broken and needs to be replaced, but have no idea what or where to start. Obviously, am hoping you can tell me offer any advice on whether there are further diagnostics necessary or better yet let me know what parts need to replaced. I would also like to know how challenging the repair will be and whether it will require any special tools. Regards, Fred (email@example.com)
Mullion heater is not the problem. If the refrigerator is not cooling look to the freezer compartment for your problem. Air from the freezer is used to cool the refrigerator(s) section. If the freezer coil frosts up it stops air circulation to the rest of the system. Although you may think the freezer is working properly it may have a defrost problem and will show up there also. Look for signs of frost on the back wall of the freezer as a sign of the coil freezing. The mullion heater is designed to put out just enough heat to stop condensation between the outside temperatures and the inner compartmant temperatures. If the inner compartment is warm the heater will seem warmer than normal.
