You have a defective defrosting strip. A hearing element that warms the side of the fridge to melt ice that collects. Your fridge is dangerous to operate. You have a possible short in the defrost system that can electrocute you. You should unplug immediately. I am SERIOUS.

The condenser fan motor at the back near the compressor is either dirty or not running at proper speeds. Clean the coils for air flow over compressor and if the fan is not running replace the fan.

Defrost heater staying on causing rubber strip on doors to get extremely hot

hmmm... This would cause a freezer meltdown and spoiling of your food. Are you talking about the heating element behind the freezer panel ? There should be a safety to shut off the heater - there is another type of heating element to prevent moisture during hot humid summer days, controled by an "energy saver" switch - on older refrigerators - when this is on it is normal for the base between the freezer and fridge to be warm - but if it is the defrost element in the freezer, this is not normal at all - usually it should say on for around 20-25 mins or as needed - in which case you have a defrost timer / defrost components problems and need to get it serviced A.S.A.P.

Model and brand is always helpful when requesting information.

This strip is warmed to prevent condensation forming here during humid weather. Some models use a refrigerant pass of the compressor to warm this strip other use a heater that can be controlled by a 2 position switch in the refrigerator control panel that reads something like "Turn this on if moisture appears on cabinet exterior". If you have no such switch you should be aware that the strip is ALWAYS warm but barely noticeable until you develop a problem in the cooling system.

Check temperatures in the freezer (Zero Degrees approx.) and refrigerator (Approx. 30). If these are normal don't worry about the heat from that strip. If you find a temperature not normal you have the beginning of a refrigeration problem.

Ice smells and tastes baaaad, water smells and tastes baad!!!! I changed the line and it still stinks...please help...

Check all of this;

  • Remove spoiled food
  • Clean refrigerator interior with a solution of hot water and baking soda
  • Clean the door seals
  • Remove breaker strips and check for wet insulation

To remove the breaker strips it is important to bring them up to room temperature first. If they are too cold they will be brittle and may crack. To warm the strips you can open the freezer and allow it to come up to room temperature (wait 2 to 4 hours) or you can soak a towel in warm water and hold it against the strips to warm them.

Good luck:

if this is a side by side refrigerator, then the space between the doors is not heated by an electric heater. it is heated by part of the condensing coil. so the excess heat is probably generated by a loss of adequate airflow under the machine. which would explain the temperature change in the refrigerator.
  • clean the coils under the machine and make sure the fan is working.
  • make sure the airflow is not obstructed in any way.
if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.

Door frame around freezer door is very hot for a long time in side-by-side refrigerator/freezer

The problem you describe is caused by the hot gas pipe that runs around the cabinet, this is normal for it too get warm, the only reason it would be very hot is that for some reason the gases are not being cooled, probable cause is that the condenser is blocked with dust or fluff, depending on axact version some are located behind the plastic trim that runs below the doors and others are in the back behind the lower rear panel.
