Um, I realize that this might sound off, but what is a VGA socket. Both of my TV's have the red, yellow, white, audio sockets, and a S-Video thing, and an ANT. in slot. They are both only a couple years old at the most. My laptop is supposed to have a S-TV out cable- what is that and would it work?

Hi Stomlin,

If the TV has a VGA socket, and all modern set have, use a VGA lead. That will get you the best picture quality.

You will also need a 3.5mm jack plug lead for the sound.

    Hi,

A VGA socket is a 15 pin connector that connects a PC to a monitor. You should find one on your laptop somewhere.

Most (all?) modern LCD and Plasma TV's have them but it sound like you might have a standard TV (tube).

In that case you'll have to use the S Video. You'll need to get a S Video lead to connect the laptop S TV socket to the S Video socket on the TV. Just check that the 2 sockets look the same, they should.

    hope this helps

    Andy

Have wireless internet need to connect tv to hp laptop

If its portability and convenience you're wanting to achieve you can connect your tv to your laptop via a hdmi or vga pc to tv device such as the one below.

wireless-internet-need-connect-tv-hp-h3kz2pmtsa0m5tqtbi05zsqk-5-0_1.jpg Or you could set your close lid settings to "do nothing" when lid is closed" and set it to "never sleep" when connected to AC power and use either an hdmi cable or male vga to male vga cable to connect to your tv. You will need a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse because u will no longer need to physically access your laptop. Make sure your tv input selection is correct. For example, hdmi 1, computer, vga, and etc.

I want to connect to my samsung tv to watch netflix, can you help?

Will / can this laptop access your home network and the web, ether wireless or wired? If you can deal with it being wired to your router all you need is a network cable and plug it in to the router. If you have a wireless home network or router, and you are wanting to hook up wirieless. you will need a wireless adapter for your laptop. The better ones are D-link, Belkin, Linksys, Cisco. I would recommend to stay away from Netgear they are not easy to work with for a first time user. These wireless adapters will plug into a USB port and once the soft ware is installed away you go, easy as that. Access your netflix account and you are watching movies. Another thing you may consider would be if you have a TV and you want to watch netflix on it,, is a Roku player. Check them out >>> here

The hdmi port for my hp entertainment dv7 1132nr notebook won't input the vidoes we try to watch when connecting to from the port to our htc evo phone while trying to watch a video from the phone

That is just an output port - for providing signal to a tv. You can't use it as in input port. The video file must be transferred to the pc thru the USB connection and then played there using your regular Media Player.

Laptop to tv

Your model laptop has S-Video out capabilities. Depending on what model TV you are connecting to, you would then need an S-Video to (whatever input connection your TV supports: S-Video, VGA, RCA, HDMI) cable. Once you have the cable connected, set your TV to the input method for the cable used, and press Fn + F4 on your laptop Keyboard to project the image over. May need tp press more than once depending if you wish to only display on one screen or both. S-Video is only a video out cable, so you will alos need to run an audio connector cable from your laptop to TV as well, or just use a pair of external laptop speakers for your sound.
