What does this mean (The host 'smtp' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Subject 'happy thanksgiving', Account: 'pop2', Server:...

When you want to send mail, your mail agent (e.g. Outlook or Opera Mail or Firebird) tries to authenticate with an SMTP (simple mail transfer protocol) server so it can send the mail.

You need to fill in the actual server name, account, port, and password for your ISP's smtp server so you can send mail. You receive mail via a different protocol, commonly pop3.

Camot send or receive out llook exspres

SMTP Server
In the fight against unsolicited commercial email (spam), some Internet service providers require their subscribers to send mail through the ISP's own SMTP servers. If you experience problems sending email, please contact your ISP to determine if it requires different SMTP server settings. You will need to use the ISP's SMTP server in place of Yahoo!'s SMTP server when configuring your POP mail client.
The following is a partial list of ISPs that require you to use their SMTP servers. If your ISP is among them, try replacing the Yahoo! SMTP server with the ISP server in your POP mail client settings, or consult the ISP's help files. If your ISP does not appear in the list below, please contact your ISP directly for more information.

My computer refuses to change a message in Outbox to Send, leaving me with a queue ofunsent messages. I can receive incoming clls, but not send any out returner@ntl world.com

Make sure your SMTP (outgoing) server is set properly.
Are you on your own connection - or using a retail WiFi one?

Normally most WiFi servers reject outgoing mail.
You can GET mail - just not send any.
SMTP is blocked.
Pop3 (incoming) is allowed.

To check that the SMTP is set properly -

Open O/E, and navigate to the following screen....

Tools > Accounts > (Highlight the eMail account you are trying to send from).

Then click Properties

Click SERVERS tab.

It should say...
Outgoing Mail (SMTP): __________________________

In the blank it should say something like: SMTP.ntworld.com
(check with your service provider for the correct SMTP setting)

Thanks for using FixYa - if you need further clarification on your question - please use the "continue with this user" option so we are connected in the future.

Thank You!! :D

Outlook exspress up dated and I can not sent e-mails, i recieve ok

You will need to make sure that your SMTP settings are correct. If you're using a private email server or an ISP mail server, you will need the correct settings.

Also, in some cases the SMTP server will require user authentication.

I'm not 100% where to find this in Outlook Express, but in Outlook 2007 you go to Tools > Account Settings > Select your account > Click Change... and from there you should be able to see a few settings.

Look for a checkbox that says:

My outgoing (SMTP) server requires user authentication,

Click that checkbox if it's not already selected. Chose option #2:

Log on using:

Enter your username and password in the appropriate fields. Save your settings and then try.

Let me know if this helps at all.

Given the fact that you said you can receive messages but cannot send, I know 100% that it's an SMTP issue which is fixable.

The issue is: Unable to Send/Receive emails from winThe host 'POP3' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'POP3', Server: 'POP3', Protocol: POP3, Port:...

You are receiving this error because of one of two reasons:
1) Your email account is not set up properly. Click on Microsoft Outlook, click on Tools, then Accounts. You will see a window with columns stating Account-Type-Connection. If an account is set up then click on it then click on Properties. Click server tab and you will see the SMTP server block and the POP3 server block. Both of these fields will read as follows: pop.XXXXX.net and smtp.XXXXX.net. Your Internet Service Providers name will be in the XXXX. If these are not set up properly then you cannot connect to send email. If they are filled out correctly then you need to call your Internet Service Provider and inform them of your situation. Their server is not working properly.

Don't forget to 4 star this solution.

Using thunderbird mail program on lap top. can receive e-mail, but can not send e-mail on any public wi-fi connection. error message says can not connect to mail server on port 25.

most isp blocks port 25 for sending out mail that's the reason you cant send out mail, ask you wifi(ISP) smtp settings and you need to set it on your smtp server so you can send out mail using thier smtp as outgoing server.

OR ask you email provider about your webmail address and manually send out mail using the web interface of your email hosting.

btw have you try to change you smtp port to 587 sometimes it work.

- Are you getting error or msg error? please post it?
- Usually this problem is cause of duplicating or missed use of pop and smtp.
- Please check pop3 and smtp and reconfugre your email setting and password.

We changed suppliers for our phone line, checked with new suppliers and they hold us the problem was our Norton. Can you please tell me what to do, we are unable to send emails. We can receive OK

ok..the smtp settings are dependent on who is sending you the internet signal..go to their website, and look for help for pop settings or smtp settings..then open your email account profile, and make that change..that is most likely the cause
