If your running DSL and even if it is a separate number, you still need a filter on it regardless. Home security systems, fax machines, any and all phone lines, answering machines, all these devices will need a filter on them.

Yes you do unless it is a seperate phone number for your fax line.

Error #252

This is a poor fax line error. The line quality has noise or some issue causing the fax receive /or send to fail , often people use the same line for faxing and ADSL (telephone provided internet) and this will cause noise on the line. To fix this I have used a noise filter that came withe the DSL router from the Telco. sometimes ive even had to use two, one on each end of the phone cable before the line was clear enough to send and recieve faxes without a problem. If this is not your case, have the person sending the fax do one at a time or vice versa. Hope that helps you Gurvy

Someone is faxing me iam getting commerror283 how to fix it

This error typically indicates a problem with the line. Sometimes it's caused by noise (like from DSL on the same line, or alarm systems/home automation systems that use the same line).

Try other devices on the line, like a standard phone or modem and see if you can detect the noise issues. You may need to order a separate POTS line for faxing, especially if you are using the aforementioned services or VoIP systems.

Hope this helps!

Our Epson Sylus CX9400Fax Series is not receiving or sending faxes. We have already done the phone call to India thing for 90 minutes. All settings were changed and tested. They are now back to factory...

Ok, here's a check list for you.
SENDING

Check the following:

  • Make sure the phone cable is connected correctly and verify that the phone line works by connecting a phone to it.

  • Make sure that your recipient's fax machine is turned on and working.

  • If you connected the Epson Stylus CX to a DSL phone line, you must install a DSL filter to the line or you won't be able to fax. Contact your DSL provider for the necessary filter.

  • If your phone line has static or other noise problems, turn off the ECM (Error Correction Mode) setting and try faxing again.

Follow these steps to turn off the ECM setting:

    1. Press Setup.

    2. Select Fax Settings, then press OK. You see this screen:

    3. cp_display_141_er.gif

    4. Select Communication, then press OK.

    5. Press cp_button_44_er.gif and select ECM. Then press cp_button_42_er.gif and set it to Off.

    6. Press OK.

RECEIVING

Try the following if you can't receive a fax:

  • Make sure the phone cable is connected correctly and verify that the phone line works by connecting a phone to it.

  • To receive faxes automatically, make sure the Auto Answer light is turned on. To turn it on, press the Auto Answer/Space button.

  • Make sure paper is loaded.

Faxing with a digital phone line

I looked up fax problems at HP.com and my guess, based on what I read, is that the 6110 is able to detect the broadband data connection at the higher line frequencies, even though all you hear on the line is a normal dial tone. If you haven't done so already, you'll need to install a line filter on one of your phone jacks (this should have come in the kit with the rest of the hardware you were sent to set up the DSL line). This isn't an issue with the 6110, but a natural "consequence" of using DSL.

Here's the web page I used as the basic for this opinion:

Phone "Off the Hook" Status

On that page scroll down to the "Checking the phone line" section and read the material there. See if that info helps. Good luck.

DSL FILTER

I know that my DSL filter is plugged in to my telephone socket, it has about a 6 inch lead from the phone socket to the filter so it should be quite close to the socket.

Hope that helps.

Canon fax problem

Unless that phone line is filtered in a back room somewhere, that could be the reason why it isn't working. The best way to find out is to put your fax machine onto on hook dial mode and listen for the tone. If you don't hear one, your fax line isn't filtered and needs a filter in order to use the line for faxing.

Sending a fax by DSL requires one of two methods: 1. You obtain a DSL line filter suitable for connecting a standard voice telephone to the DSL line, then connect an analog fax modem to the line through the line filter. 2. You hire an Internet E-faxing service. See · http://www.slipstick.com/addins/services/fax.htm#internetfax · http://www.slipstick.com/addins/services/fax.htm · http://www.savetz.com/fax Tim
