My Canon Pwershot A560 has always worked GREAT! Now, all of the sudden, I cannot take a picture unless I shut the flash off. Now, my pics are blurry and have lighting troubles. Why is my flash not working? How do I fix this problem?

I try to take a picture with the flash on, and it won't. I press the button and the light on the front turns orange and the flash symbol just blinks on and off. Then I try and take a far away picture and it works, without the flash. What do I do??

whenever I turn flash on (or it should be used in automatic mode), the focus spot just stays white, the flash symbol flashes and it does not let me take a photo. It used to work a couple of days ago. I hope it's just some settings. Please help!

My camera wont take a picture unless the flash is off - this use to only happen when the batteries were low, but I just changed them and it still wont work. Can anyone help me???

Same here. The camera is just 2 years old. I just put fresh batteries in. Sometimes if I can get it to take one shot with a flash, it seems to remember how to use the flash, but that only lasts a few pictures.

I have just charged up a brand new set of Energizer rechargable batteries with longer life than before (supposedly?) - They have been charging for a few days, so I put the batteries in and tried to take a portrait photo (or any setting actually) and the flash light (little arrow which looks like a bolt of lightening) flashes on & off, and it wont let me take a picture. HELP PLEASE!

Same here! But when I turned off red eye reduction, it has helped. I haven't had a problem for the past few weeks. Of course now I have more red eye, but I don't know that the red eye reduction really worked anyway.

I have the same problem.  If I change the batteries it seems to help.  Anyone use rechargables?  I'm thinking of switching to fix this problem.

Ah! I just figured it out. I read that the image stabilization doesn't work as well with a flash, so I turned it off. While in camera mode (not play mode), hit Menu, then scroll down to IS Mode. There are a few options. I chose "Off." And I was immediately able to take a photo. I'll play around with the other options (Continuous, Shoot Only, Panning). Now my only problem is that I JUST changed the batteries about 10 minutes ago and it's already telling me to change them again. Ug.

Now my Solution doesn't work anymore. Back to square one.

I tried turning off image stabilization, and that seemed to help, but then it didn't. My best bet has been to turn off the red eye reduction. Ever since I turned that off, I've not  had a problem with the flash. Good luck everyone.

It may be switched off. There could also be a break in the wiring to the flash. Without more, there's no way to know.
The first step would be to verify that the flash has not been set to "off" in the flash mode.

Ixus 430 will take photos when flash is turned off, but will not take photos when flash or redeye is selected

Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't take a picture when the shutter button is pressed, or with an inoperative flash. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try. (Hint, make sure that all the screws around the perimeter of the case are present and firmly seated.)

I have a Canon Power Shot A720. Outdoor photos are beautiful. Indoor photos are always grainy/blurry...a lot of noise. I have tried the ISP feature but there are only two choices... 1. Auto or 2....

Hi Usually outdoor picture are good within small compact camera. They designed like that. But now your unit just have flash pcb defective. When flash function work, your picture will be good indoor. Regarding your flash unit would be brown fuse or replacement of flash unit. It is 50 and 50 chance. Your local repair shop would charge around $35 to 95 depend on what they really want to charge. Thanks and best regard!

Can;t get any pictures at night

hi there,

the camera needs enough light from the environment to produce good picture
in your case, have you used built in flash to support you while taking photos?
or if you don`t want to use flash, you need a tripod to ensure the camera position won`t shake

setting i usually use while taking a picture at night is ISO 100, f 22 and manual focus mode

thanks

I have a vivitar vivicam 5024 and i remember how to turn the flash on

The flash instruction begin on page 8 of the manual. Bear in mind that the flash won't work in macro mode, only in far mode. Also, the flash is for still photos only, not for videos.
