Most usb flash drives have a little switch on them that enables/disables writing to the drive
cant tell you where on yours it is as you did not give the model, but there should be a switch
flip it to the other end, try again
as a generic view check this image http://gfx.cdfreaks.com/reviews/Traxdata%20EZ%20Drive%20Twister/image008.jpg

Memory card unlocker

Micro SD (secure data) cards store information such as Word, image and video files.
Kingston microSD cards are used in many settings, such as schools, businesses and government offices, to protect data.
Some Kingston microSD cards are locked for added protection.
In the locked position, you cannot add or delete data from a microSD card.
You will need to unlock your Kingston microSD card in order to save data on it or delete data from it.

Remove the Kingston microSD card from whatever device it is kept in, whether it's a storage case, a digital camera or a GPS.
Find the small plastic switch on your Kingston microSD card.
If you are looking at the microSD card with the arrow pointing away from you, the switch will be on the right side of the card.

Flip the switch on the card to the unlocked position.
This will enable you to store and remove files on your Kingston microSD card.

My memory card as been locked it is not opening and asking the password

Micro Secure Digital memory cards, or Micro SD cards, provide storage for a variety of different kinds of devices, including mobile phones, PDAs and cameras.
They can be protected by passwords so that the information that you have saved on it is secure. Sometimes, the password can be forgotten or lost.
Recovering your password is easily done with your computer and SD card reader on your computer.

Place the micro SD card into your card reader on your computer.
Right-click your "Start" button and then "Explore".
Find the micro SD card, it will be listed as a removable drive.
Click on the micro SD card and the files will show on the right-hand side.
Find the file that says " MMCSTORE" and then select "Copy."
Right-click on your desktop and then click "Paste."
This will move the MMCSTORE file to the desktop so that you can get access to edit it.
Right-click on the MMCSTORE and then click on "Open With." Open the file with Notepad.
Read the text to find the password. It will be in plain text.
Remove the SD card from the computer and place it into the device for which it is used as storage. Turn on the device.
When it prompts you for the password, enter it.
or
Delete a MicroSD Card Password
Some MicroSD cards are password protected, preventing you from using the card without the password.
You can circumvent this restriction by formatting the card, which eliminates the password requirement.

Insert the MicroSD card in your MicroSD card adapter and insert the adapter in the SD slot on your computer.
Right-click "Start" and select "Explore".

Click "Computer" and right-click the drive letter of the MicroSD card.
Select "Format", select the "FAT32" file system from the drop-down menu and press "Enter" to reformat the card.

I have used Asoftech data recovery for hard drive data recovery for about 20 years, and they have never failed me...including the one time a disgruntled employee deleted everything and then formatted the hard drive. Asoftech was able to recover 95%+ of the wiped data within 24 hours of getting the drive.

Sometimes when a flashmemory stick or USB external hard drive fails because it was not removed fromthe USB port properly. If the device is removed byjust pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, youmust click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select thedevice you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so When the flash memoryUSB hard drive device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restoreit by reformatting it. Insert the flash or USB hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - AdministrativeTools - Computer Management - Disk Management. Then right click on Disk 1removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted itwill indicate that it is Healthy.

Deleting hidden files

mcpeak_jake

Ok here is a little hard drive 101 for you. With hard drives when the drive says it is a 2gb drive you really do not get 2gb of space to store your data on. The reason for this is every hard drive partition has what is called a file table. The file table help the computer keep track where the files are saved on the hard drive. It is kind of like a card index at the library. Unfortantly the file table will always take up a percentage of the drive. The bigger the drive the bigger the file table will be.

Note some times there are hidden system file on a drive. The link below will show you how to unhide them. However in most cases these are system files that the computer/device needed to work properly and shoudl not be deleted unless you are sure that you can delete the file. This is why they are hidden so they do not get deleted by mistake.

How to use 2.5" SATA external hard drive

Hello

My apologies if this message finds you long after posting this problem , but I am currently working through a backlog of problems that never got answered and hopefully this info can still be of use if not now possibly in future.

Please download Disc Digger HERE. This is a free tool you can use that works very well and there is no installation required, just run the program once you downloaded it.

Once you have connected the memory disk / hdd to the computer , run the program.

On the program , select the dig deep option for accidentally deleted files or dig deeper for a formatted drive. Then select the disk you want to do the recovery on and run the program.

The data will be displayed and you can recover it from there. This will only work if the card has not been used since the data was lost. Save the files to a location on the computer hard drive and not back to the disk it is recovering from as this will overwrite the other pictures that still needs to be recovered.

Some of the properties of the files may become lost in the recovery but the pictures should be fine.

You will also only be able to recover certain file types using this method.

Feel free to ask if you need more assistance.

Kind Regards
Andrea

In this case you should use data recovery software to try recovering the files and data, provided those lost data are not fully overwrtten.

Be careful: Before your files are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the external in case the original files are overwritten.
