I have used this version of Pinnacle on many occasions previously without problems using the same camcorder.
Now when I try to install the Panasonic USB Driver the Hardware Update Wizard says " The hardware was not installed because the Wizard cannot find the necessary software. Please advise.

  • pratchett Jun 28, 2008

I have already tried this with no success.
I think Dageezer may have been going in the right direction but I have not sufficient computer skill to follow his advice.
Pinnacle,Windows Movie Maker, and AVS Media all cannot initialize the DV capture device.
My PC will not accept the Panasonic USB Driver softwear.

It could be that your software disc is corrupt and you will need to download the software from the website.

Try this: First uninstall the previous software installed. Restart the computer. Switch on your cam, and plug in via USB. Wait a while and see if it is detected at all, without the software. If it isn't, you may want to check this article:
http://www.thedave.ca/wordpress/index.php/2008/01/05/windows-vista-usb-device-detection-problems/

If it is detected, then the issue is with the software, and as said before, you will need to download it again. Try a clean install as outlined here:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r643558-clean_boot_in_vista

Hope that helps. If it doesnt, please post back, and I will try to assist further as best I can. Should you find the solution helpful, kindly take a moment to "Accept" my solution.

Thanks.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

Ok first you cant transfer videos recorded onto Mini DV to a computer
via USB. To transfer them you will need to make sure that your computer
has a firewire port ( IEEE 1394) this was an option on that model of
Dells. If you dont have one you will need to buy a USB firewire capture
device. I have included a link to one below. Next if you did have a
firewire port, you will need to buy a 6 pin to 4 pin firewire cable and
then plug the the 6 pin end into the machine and the 4 pin end into the
camcorder. And finally you will need to use Movie Maker to capture the
    video.

    CLick this link for sources

    http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=...

    - USB capture device with Firewire input only needed if your computer
doesn't already have a firewire (IEEE 1394) port of you buy this all
the cables you need are included.

    http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=...

    - 6pin to 4 pin firewire cable only needed if you dont buy the item above, and you have a built in firewire ( IEEE 1394 ) port.

    Thanks
    Good Luck

Hi there

I would recommend that you download and install one of the following programs. The problem with your current program (Pinnacle Studio SE) is that it does not support .DV file format

  • Pinnacle Studio Plus 9
  • Pinnacle Studio Plus 11
Bellow i will show you the advantages of Pinnacle Studio Plus 9 or 11

Pinnacle Studio Plus 9- Pinnacle has always amazed us with its Studio software for entry-level DV editing. Unlike many other programs at this level, Studio has been designed with the actual job of editing in mind, rather than simply being loaded with tacky special effects. The interface is visual and intuitive, and the package on the whole has always been packed with genuinely useful (and often quite ingenious) features. In recent years, however, we've been equally amazed at the program's flakiness and Pinnacle's inability to keep Studio's head above water.

Pinnacle Studio Plus 11- The newest edition of the best-selling Pinnacle Studio video editing software, Pinnacle Studio Plus Version 11, is all about innovation. This full-featured yet accessible application lets true video enthusiasts harness the power of the latest technologies without compromising ease of use. Pinnacle Studio Plus has an extensive range of capabilities which include compatibility with the new Windows Vista operating system, HD DVD and AVCHD format editing and disc burning, Hi-Fi audio music generation, and automatic Web publishing. With improved performance and speed, and a sleek new user interface, Pinnacle Studio Plus offers customers a video editing experience like never before.

Both of these programs support .DV Editing which is what you need.

Keep us posted and thank you for using our service.

You might have to reload Pinnacle studio if the software isn't recognizing it. Check with Pinncalesys.com to see if there is an update to your software as well before reinstalling it.

I've never heard of a DV camcorder being recognized as a removable disc. I know that DVD camcorders can be. Usually on a DV camcorder it is plugged into the computer, the power gets turned on and then it tries to connect to a program to capture the video from the camcorder.

A lot times DV Camcorders are plug and play requiring very little software. Once it is plugged in Pinnacle Studio prompts you to use the camera with the software.

I don't know too if this hase something to do with the software being an SE or not. I use a complete Pinnacle Studio system. You might want to check at pinnaclesys.com on that.

If your using a 1394 cable it should pull up as a removable device in that area. It's seperate from the USB. I forgot that camera had a memory card in it and should detect as a removable device only if a SD card is installed in the camera.

Hi,

May I offer an alternative, it is possible that the issue has something to do with the USB in general. If you are using Vista, Microsoft has acknowledged this issue and has posted a patch/upgrade, Update for Windows Vista (KB940199) which can be found here. A similar patch is likewise available for XP here.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

INEED TO DOWNLOAD SOFTWARE TO CONNECT CAMCORDER TO MY PC TO CONVERT VEDIO TAPE RECORDED

To transfer video from this camcorder to a PC, you need a 1394 cable (also called a "Firewire" cable, and your PC must have a 1394/Firewire connector as well. You can use Movie Maker (which comes with Windows) as the capture software, or you can download Scenalyzer (shareware), Studio (from Pinnacle), or Vegas Movie Studio to do the capture.

PV GS39 Win XP Movie Maker

I don't know if Windows XP Movie Maker can detect a firewire based video camera.

Do you have DVD burning software such as Nero in your computer? That has capture capability to it.

Pinnacle Studio will detect a firewire camera. It is reasonably priced and easy to use. In fact you can control your camcorder from Studio in case you need to rewind or fast forward the tape.

Capture video not responding - driver issue

Are you using the USB cable that came with the camcorder? If so, then don't use it, because it doesn't work for loading from mini DV tapes to other devices. Instead, buy a IEEE 1394 "FireWire" cable (whether 4/6/ pin, whatever you need)in order to pass the videos from the camara to the computer. note: DO NOT buy a cable that has a USB on one side and a IEEE 1394 on the other side, thus it doesn't work. You must buy a cable that has both IEEE 1394 ports on both sides.
