Dell 1800FP - no power

Hello,

I was referred to you by worldvet.

Here is the problem:

My Dell FP1800 LCD monitor was working fine. I was using my pc one time and the monitor suddenly went blank. The green power on light disappeared.

In trouble shooting, I checked the power cable, fuses and connection. I even used other working power cables. My graphics card is definitely working with other monitors. My monitor is about 5-years old. What happened to my beloved LCD and is there any chance of making use of it again?

Thank you.

Hi pcpiuk

If you have a multimeter, and want to get into the electronics of it all, you could rip the covers off and sus it out. Here is a pictorial guide on whats in it. You need to check the power supply for operation. If it appears to be producing voltage(they usually do or they dont) then it will be ok. The common cause of failure in the power supply is the regulator IC ICE2AS01 an 8-pin DIP chip, and resolder the entire PC. Around power devices I use solder with 2% silver content as it creates much tougher solder joint. If the power supply checks ok, then the inverter is the next spot to check. Just replace it if it appears to be the problem. You can get spares to rebuild the power supply and even new boards from ebay or Dell direct.

How to remove stand from dell monitor + fp1800

First, find a sturdy flat surface. You will be laying the monitor on it's face - face down so get a towel, blanket or something soft to cushion the monitor on the flat surface.
Lay the monitor face down on the whatever cushion you chose.
There are two black machine screws on the back on the plate that is part of the stand. Remove these screws and the stand will slide free.

My Dell 1800FP monitor went black

Confirm your cables did not work themselves loose. Try using a different power cable to confirm that it was not the cable. Finally try a lamp in the socket you are using for the monitor power cable, if you are not using a power bar but even then just to rule that out. If the only thing left is that your monitor is dead, you will need to recycle that one and purchase yourself another one. Sorry

Dell 1800FP monitor. Will not power up at all. Checked power cord on another machine, works fine. Monitor is from 2002, but was working perfect till yesterday. Is this worth fixing?

Take it apart and check the fuse. Sometimes is just a simple component damaged.
Have it checked in a specialist electronics house if you prefer.

Dell ultrasharp blinks on and off

It could be a setting problem, power saver setting, or a mode that the monitor does not really support - things like refresh rate - or actual hardware.

Easiest way is to borrow another like monitor, and say another video cord and see if the problem remains, or if a newer monitor says 'out of range' or similar.

Then, if you have a fancy video card, remove it and use something primitive. Not reading instructions is a big cause.

If its not a setting issue, and as the inverter board is ok; if the above description is correct, reseat the inner board connecting cables.(wood fires and seaside locations) If not that, a lucky guess might be the electros on the logic board.

Inside there is a IC chip on the power pack that goes bad, replacement is called for also look for bad capacitors when you are inside looking around, those need to be replaced as well
hope this clears things up. dells third party who built these units did a rotten job on this model. that chip always fails.

Dell LCD monitor suddenly loses power

Hello,

Five years is a long time for an LCD panel. You definetly got your money's worth.

But, if your trouble shooing has led you to this conclusion I can also only conclude that the power driver inside your panel just gave up the ghost.

However, try giving Dell a call, for what's thats worth and see what they have to say.

You might also want to ask this expert "Robotek" what he may think as he is a board troubleshooter and could give you an answer if one is there.

Type this or copy and paste into your browser's address bar:

And then click on the Ask Me button under his picture.

Dell 1800FP has slight yellow cast

Your Display cable (inside your monitor) needs to be replaced. (Or reseated)

I would look on ebay to try and find the part and then take it to a local tech to replace it for you as I would not recommend anyone take apart a monitor (LCD OR CRT) if you had never done so before.

Left half of screen is perfect. Right half of screen shakes

Look to see if there is any kind of magnet by the screen. Even speakers wil do it. So does anything that emits micro waves such as cell phones and microwave ovens. So just move it or anything that you think could mess it up.
