HL-DT-ST CD-ROM GCR-8480B, i believe is my sound card. but how can i install the driver since i dont have the installer? any way that i can install the driver without its CD?

Download microsoft fixit from http://www.ziddu.com/download/6528022/MicrosoftFixit50027.msi.html and install it in your pc ,once its finished jst restart your pc and see it will work

that lg dvd doesnot need any driver to be downloaded, drivers for it are provided with windows system

Go to Dell website, check your model and download the Driver from there, reinstall it and check if it works.

try removing it and then switching on computer make sure the icon has gone, restall and recheck icon. this sometimes works most of the time.let me know how you get on.                 mister dj 

if you are not very sound on technical ground its better to be done by some technician

Check the jumper on the cd/ dvd rom drive. maybe it was still there. I tried before to remove it. The os installation continued after i Removed it.

The driver is actuall built in with the Operating system, there is no download for dvd rom drives.
But if you are can see an alert on device manager indicating drivers are not installed on your DVD ROM drive, just follow the steps here...

and it should work after several restarts, if you are running on XP.
