I had the same problem with my computer locking up while formating and it turned out to be the hard drive, so try a different hard drive and see if it helps.

I'm running windows 7 32bit and want to install a SATA port expander but there are no instructions on doing it without makeing the a RAID aray.

You should have posted the model of what you want this on, usually the reason is to add RAID so its faster.

You could use USB 3.0 ports for your drives and get the same speed you will get from Sata 2 using HDD.

Try just plugging it in, run windows update, then go to ADMIN tools, computer MGNT, storage, disk MGT, see if you can see the added storage, then just Look for the unpartitioned HDD usually represented by a black header
right click it and select format.
on the following instructions

Hi hermand25
I was about to suggest you to format the hdd when i fell on your last sentence . I think you don't have any other choice , but you can't format it from your pc . Place it in an external box or inside another healthy computer as secundary. When done , you will be able to install Windows on the hdd placed back in your computer . I suppose your machine supports 64-systems ?

On my acer notebook ive got the dreaded BSOD. ive tried every option in the f8 menu and end up back with BSOD. is there anyway for me to fix this? have no disk drive

Try cleaning your laptop and put 1 drop of thermal paste on the top of the processor or CPU. Then try again booting up, if still the same (BSOD) your system files are corrupted. First thing to do is to back up your data or files. Remove your HDD or hard disk drive and plug in to hdd laptop usb adaptor. So that you can backup all your files into another computer. After backup your data or filles. Then you must have the USB windows installer bootable. Make the usb boot first from your bios or cmos settings then follow the on screen instruction for formatting computer.

After installing another HDD from another Packard Bell computer, the computer would not boot. This computer I recieved from a mate and I dont believe windows was removed, as I have tryed and failed...

if it is a sata Hdd you have to reinstall it ..cause the sata driver on the os ..is from the other computer ..or go to bios ..and in the drives feature..look for a function called AHCI and disable it ...
after that will boot with the windows installed..but you will have to reinstall the windows anyway ..and if it is a raid sata you need to insert a diskette with the sata driver during ..or disable the ahci function ..for to let it see the HDD ..if not all it will say is that the hdd was not found..or if you try to boot with this windows on it .will say that the media is missing ..
beter to set the defaults in the bios ..and after that look for that funstion to be disabled..or disable the raid sata ..and enable teh sata Ide..instead..it is the same thing ..and will pick up the sata hdd with no sweat ..

RAID drivers in Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Setup not detected

Delete the '32bit' folder from your USB drive, and try again to re-install Windows. Hopefully, it will find the '64bit' folder, and will install from that folder.

I have recently purchased a new HDD (I now have 2 Hitachi P7K500 HDDs) and built it into my system. I have first formatted the HDD I already had, then configured my BIOS for use of RAID 0. My mobo (MSI...

1. If you are just setting up your computer to have an a regular HDD and Backup HDD, i would think you should be able to set that up by booting onto your computer regularly, go to start, then into My Computer and right clicking on the HDD you want to set as Raid 1.

But if just want that other HDD for Space on your computer, all you had to do was plug it in and there you go... extra space.

Now if your installing windows 7 on the other drive i would find that pointless because you already have it on your first drive unless your putting 2 operating systems onto your computer.

Hope this helps.

Can't create RAID

It sounds like you have created an install disk. It also sounds like you pressed F6 to install additional drivers. Your install disk probably has 2 drivers on it. You must install them separately. So--you will have to tell the install program twice to install each driver in turn. Once you do that, it should work.

Problem with creating array

The Perc RAID controller in a 2600 doesn't support RAID 4.
You can do RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 5.

With 3 HDD's your best bet would be a RAID 5.

Mirroring is RAID 1 (which would only use 2 of the drives)
