It's most likely the power socket disconnected from the motherboard.

It will need to be resoldered but this is quite a tricky job.

You could also check the voltage output of the power supply unit with a multimeter.

Hope this helps.

My HCL pc has a power problem it can't turn on

usually, either a faulty power supply or motherboard can cause this though it would also be a good idea to test other components. try the easy steps first. try another working power cord and power outlet. at times, a faulty power cord will or failing outlet are the culprit. should that not work, move inside. unplug the computer and try to disconnect all components connected from the outside of the computer, then open the casing and remove the all memory modules, add-in cards, storage devices and all connections to the motherboard. if the power supply has a LED indicator or a test button, plug it to a working outlet, then use the test button or check if the LED on it will glow to at least help indicate if it has power. If no indicators, unplug it again, press the power button on the computer to drain any power remaining. Once done, check the motherboard for visual signs of issues like leaking or bulging or burn capacitors. if none, use the reset jumpers in the motherboard, remove the cmos battery, then reconnect the 4 and/or 12 pin power to the mainboard, plug the power supply and try to power it on. if it powers like fan spins, try to power it off and unplug it after about 10 seconds. reconnect all devices inside one by one and keep testing the computer to see if any device will prevent it from turning on so you will know which component may need to be replaced. else, try swapping parts if possible starting with the power supply, memory and last would be the motherboard.

hope this helps.

My dell studio1555 laptop is not recognising my mains lead/charger

Plug the adapter into the wall outlet or power strip. If using a power strip, make sure the strip is on. Most laptop power adapters have a small LED light; the light will illuminate when power is being transferred from the outlet to the adapter. If the light illuminates, chances are you have sufficient power to supply your laptop. Wiggle the power cord if the LED light did not initially illuminate. If the light turns on and off when you wiggle it, you might have a loose cord in the adapter, or the outlet could be faulty. Plug the adapter into another power outlet, preferably a different circuit in another room, if the LED light did not illuminate the first time. If it lights up from the second outlet, the first outlet either does not work or other devices were using too much power on the initial circuit. Connect the other end of the adapter to the laptop and turn the laptop on. When the computer starts up, you should see an indication of how the laptop is being powered in the lower right-hand corner. If you see a battery icon, then the laptop is being powered by the battery, not the adapter. Make sure both ends of the adapter are securely connected. If they are, and if the LED light on the adapter is lit, then you likely have a faulty wire that is not properly connecting to your computer. If you see a plug or adapter icon, then the laptop is successfully being powered by the adapter. If the LED light on the adapter is not lit, then the bulb is out, but the adapter is still working.

TV won't come on using romote or controls on side of TV. Should there be a light on permanently on the front of the TV, because there isn't.

Yes, there'e usually a standby indicator LED that will illuminate when the TV is plugged in and not yet turned on. Flat panel TV's like these are notorious for bad power supplies and sometimes bad main boards. Try unplugging everything and maybe try a different outlet, or use something like a lamp to plug into the TV's current outlet (to verify power to the outlet). Might be time to call a shop however.

Cannot start up my laptop even with DC adapter power on.

Try this: unplug the power supply from the laptop, remove the battery, and, while no power is being supplied to it, hold down the power button for about 10 seconds. After doing this, plug everything back in and try to turn it on. If it still does not work, you might want to test the power supply with a voltage meter (try your nearest electronics store if you do not own one). If it still does not work, it is possible that the motherboard could be dead. Also, you might want to try calling Toshiba to see if there is a known issue with your model, as this is sometimes the case.

Toshiba L20 - screen appears dead?

Try to plug in an external monitor on laptop to check if there is a problem with your LCD.

Plug in the external monitor then boot the computer. If still nothing happens try removing the battery and the adapter, let it rest for a minute then plug in only the adapter and try to boot up with out the battery.

Hope this helps.

My Toshiba satellite L20 laptop has gone into hibernation mode and I cannot switch it on at all.

Try reseating the battery(Basically try taking out the battery for 10 secs then putting the battery in). The battery is located probably behind and under the laptop!! If that does not help, there could be something worse wrong with your laptop. When you plug it in does the indicator show that its plugged in? regards, babb
