Question about Norcent Technologies PT4231 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television

1 Answer

My last question, I promise!

Thanks for your reply. I hope it will help me. I have 3 quick questions.

1. I am quite a layman when it comes to TV, but what I don't understand is that the TV is perfectly fine until it reaches the operating temperature?

2. If something is broken, shouldn't it always be full of vertical lines?

3. How come they only show on dark pieces of picture?

Thanks a lot. I am in Quebec and unfortunately you can't get a free estimate. I hope you understand.

No on the contrary, most defective components on a defective board will malfunction when they reach operational temperature, and a chemical called component cooler is often employed to locate the faulty component. Semiconductors are weird as some malfunction when cold and work fine when warm, but the majority will fail when operating temperature is reached. If you need assistance please let me know.

I TURN THE TV ON AND IT STAY ON FOR A FEW SEC AND IT HAS A BLUE SCREEN AND A MESSAGE ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAND SIDE BUT IT FLASHES SO QUICK I CAN NOT READ IT AND THEN IT TURNS BACK OFF WHAT COULD IT BE

You have a defective shunt regulator. This will cause your TV to come on for 1 or 2 seconds as you describe. The IC650 is bad. The B + supplies fail to switch to full power. In layman garb, you will need a new or refurbished power supply board. There is nothing wrong with a refurbished board.A refurbished board has been tweaked (reworked to optimum performance)and many times will out live a new board. Find an authorized Philips TV shop, show them this note. Good information may result in a reasonable repair. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

Tip

Universal Remote's (remote codes)

I am going to write a tip with my own words in it and my own idea's and what I have tried as a Tech and as a consumer. Lots of people come to Fixya.com flooding with questions about "remote codes" "I lost my remote", "I cannot get to channel 3" etc.

I will go thought major universal remote manufactures and try and post some codes or "code sheets" to help the influx of questions about remote codes. I would like to recommend some really good remotes first.

1. logitech Harmony (Expensive for most but overall good remote that you can update). www.logitech.com/en-us/remotes/
31d12e4.jpg

2.URC Digital R50 another (kinda expensive remote but will not break the bank)

a605fd9.gif
3. Lets say your under the weather with funds a nice RCA,Panasonic will work but make sure it has multi function so you can use the MENU button to control your tv set.

4. I highly recommend these folks so i want to go ahead and give them a plug "i get no kick back I promise". www.remotes.com They will find the Factory Remote that works for your TV.

Now here comes some code sheets I hope they help. I cannot grantee they will work on all TV's even tho it may be listed. I will go by manufacture of the Universal Remote first.

1. RCA http://www.remotecodelist.com/remotes/rca/rca.htm
2. Phillips http://dogbytecomputer.com/universal-remote-control-code-list.html

We want to give credit to Dogbytecomputer.com for displaying the codes on there link. Also Remotecodelist.com credit for hosting there list of codes.

Now these links are FREE and there is no charge to you for using them. I will post more links to more remote codes as they come to me.

Please do be considerate when passing threw Fixya.com today and pay respect to the experts here "trying to provide" you the ask-er FREE and PAID solutions by leaving a rating or feedback. Your rating is important to us even tho if its 1 thumb. We will know quickly how to change up our support solutions.

Thanks for your reply for my Toshiba 65H80 question...."as watching TV (Bears/Packers) and saw on the screen what I can only describe as a small "explosion"......or flash of light and then...

Hi. I believe you have been given some erroneous information. The items that are faulty are actually the capacitors. They are designed to last about 30 years if they are of good quality, however from 1998 until around June of 2005 Taiwan was flooding the market with cheap low quality capacitors, whiah are lasting about 1/3 as long. Thes are unfortunately not cheap to replace, as they are called low ESR capacitors. They can, counting the cost to have them replaced, be more expense than buying a brand new TV. If you really love your tv and just don't wish to depart with it yet, you can take it to Best Buy or Fry's, they both have specially trained techs to repair this exact situation.

Rylee just advised me that I had a convergence problem with my Panasonic PT-47WXC43 which could cost 300-350 to repair. The TV is approximately 7 years old and I'm aware there are a lot of bulbs and other...

Hi,
I replied your previous question, click HERE to read it again.
If tv shows bright picture in proper focus then it would last few more years as it is rear projection tv that has 3 picture tubes (red-green-blue) to project color picture on front screen.
Its your choice to have new tv instead of repairing this one and yes, its correct that 32 inch tv is available under 700-800 dollars.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Picture not filling screen on vizio 37" tv

Hi my name is Eric,
I hope I can help you with your issue ,
There are a few buttons to adjust the picture size on different make TVs and even on the Cable/Satellite remotes .
1.Format
2.Aspect
3.Size
4.Zoom
5.Wide
6.#
First look on the TV remote, set it to Full ,Fill or Just.
Then on the Box remote stretch is usually best.
On the box remote set the output resolution to 1080i only
And use 16x9 when if offers a choice.
Cable remotes use the # key as a zoom button.
Due to the fact there are 16 size/Formats available (3 or 4 being transmitted now). you may have to hit the zoom/stretch button on some HD channels.
But with these settings the picture will mostly stay full and help you avoid image burn from the edges being not on the edge.

Hope this helps, if it has solved your issue please click accept
But if you have more questions please respond and I will reply asap
Thanks
Eric
