Once windows has been updated to SP2 & all it's updates, than windows should show the correct drive size.

I say this to so many people who have a problem with the bios reading the correct drive size but windows not. You need to go to the manufacture's web site for you're 500GB drive. One register you're drive there online. Two, download their bootable floppy disk software or their bootable CD software & use that software to setup the FAT. (File allocation table). Use the software & choose the cluster size you want & format the drive. Than reinstall winows. Do not over write windows, do a freash install & do not use windows to format the drive. That will fix you're issue.

surely this is a firmware problem that seagate usually has, sometimes the drive cannot be detcted by the pc or even bios, and sometimes the drive detcted by the pc as 0GB or less capacity, you should find a tool such as HD Doctor for Seagate to repair it.Or you can go 2 a DR company to rewrite the firmware.

Change your Bios to tolerate greater or wider changes in temperature. Virus scan, malware scan, make sure you know what is coming in and going out of the computer.

When installing hard drive much sure that the jumpers are set to primary position or ds master on some drives. Make sure they don't conflict with other drive or cd rom.

Now if having issue with bios error download the lastest bios update and run it. If not sure ask a friend who has do it before and get some help. The error sounds like a bios upgrade is required to solve problem. Let me know how you go.
