Question about Friedrich QuietMaster Deluxe RS12L10 Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Window A/C Air Filter is Soaked

I have a 4 year old window Friedrich A/C that has work flawlessly until now.

The unit runs continuously without cycling on and off.

Upon opening the front inside grill, the replaceable foam air filter is soaked with water. There is no visible obstruction either inside or outside of the unit.

Obviously, this is cause for concern. We called the local store and it may take a few days to get service. But a second opinion and information on what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

There is a drain tube that usually runs to the outside that is suposed to carry the water away from the unit. It may be plugged. You could use a shop-vac from the outside to pull it through. If you have compressed air you can blow the obstruction out to the inside. Be aware this could make a mess on the inside! After clearing the drain line I would leave the unit off for an hour or so just in case there was any frost building. Then turn the unit back on. If it continues to get wet then the unit may not be leveled correct, or maybe it is low on refrigerant causing the frost on the inside.

Yes i have in the past just unplug it to be safe. There might be dirt or bugs blocking drain hole or some of the coils might be freezing then thawing. Make sure there's an angle for it to drain.

Honestly, repairing and 8 year old AC unit (assuming parts are still available) can cost almost as much as buying a new one. If this is the first time you've had a real problem with it ... You've gotten your monies worth over the past 8 years. But, the decision is yours to make.

My 9 year old 17,500 BTU wall mounted window Unit is freezing over with little air coming out. New filter & clean coils still have same problem.

Sounds as though the indoor fan is about to give up the ghost.. 2 choices . 1 start looking for a newer more effecent unit. 2 replace the fan motor.. sorry but it does not sound good..Wiat I just thought It just might have a run capasitor ?? Not sure.. But it could be going bad as well .. Justa thought on that one. either way you can call a tech or buy a new unit.

I have an older Friedrich- maybe 8-10 years. It drips so much water that it needs a towel underneath, which becomes soaked. The filter, which I removed, has fallen apart. I ordered a new filter which I...

If this is a window or thru the wall unit, the problem you're having is caused by 2 things.

1. The drip pan's drain hole near and under the rear of the unit is clogged and needs to be cleared.

2. The rear of the unit is not tilted down enough. 1/4" to 1/2" is the general rule of thumb. This allows the water in the drain pan to flow to the rear of the pan, where the drain hole is located.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Fan noise on Friedrich Model # CP12F10. Less than or about a year old.

Remove the shell of the unit and see if there is a obstruction in the fan, most likely is,if not look at the fan blades to see if they are tight on the shafts,if not, that is the problem.
