Question about Thermos Stainless Steel Gas Grill

1 Answer

I own a Viking Gas Grill which only hooks up to natural gas and can not be run on propane. I have had it for about 6 years now and it is a fantastic grill. The grill was suppose to be totally made of Stainless Steel from one end to the other. Well after two years the burners fell apart, grates and everything else went to a rusty mess. Viking replaced most parts with the same and again they fell apart. Now I ordered new parts at the tune of around seven hundred dollars and they are for sure stainless steel at my cost. I have new burners, handles, ignators, new wire, and valve controlls. The only thing I am missing is a schematic so I can put all the pieces where they go. I really need a full schematic showing all the connections of all the components so I can put it together this weekend. If I could get it sooner I could start on it Friday. If you could help me out I sure would appreciate it as I am at a loss on parts of it. The model number is VGBQ4122RNSS, SER NUMBER Q09049806566. Could you please locate me this information and e mail it to me as soon as possible. E mail address is rolexpres@nettally.com. Sir could you please send this to me as soon as possible? Many manufacturers make grills in propane and natural gas, but are not convertible from one gas type to another. The reason being safety. Each grill model, whether it's Natural Gas or Propane is tested and approved for that one specific gas type and that alone. Converting it would put all the responsibility on you, if something was to go wrong.

I suspect in part, the reason you want to convert is so that you want have to refill the propane tank any longer. But, you may want to consider this against convenience. Propane Gas burns cleaner and hotter than Natural Gas in an outdoor environment. Which boils down to lower high end temperatures, longer preheating times and the expense of running an approved gas line to the grill for Natural Gas. Not to mention the cost conversion parts.

But, the decision is yours to make. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Unfortunately, you cannot use your Natural Gas Grill on Propane Gas. In addition, there is no conversion kit for Weber Grills. That's why they make two different gas models. Conversion of a grill becomes a safety issue. As each model Weber grill is tested and approved only for the specific gas type. Attempts to convert it voids that approval.

I'm sorry I didn't have better news. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

How to change a weber natural gas grill to propane

According to Weber, "There is no conversion kit available to convert any Weber gas grill from one gas type to another. Any attempts to do it will void your warranty."

Sorry, but if it's any consolation, Propane Gas burns cleaner and hotter that Natural Gas in an outdoor environment. Which translates into faster preheating and hotter searing temperatures.

Hop e this helps and happy Grilling!!

Where do i find propane to natural gas conversion kit for weber spirit e310 gril

Apparently, Weber does not make a conversion kit to convert the grill from propane or from natural gas to propane. According to the Owners Manual - "Liquid propane gas is not natural gas. The conversion or attempted use of natural gas in a liquid propane unit or liquid propane
gas in a natural gas unit is dangerous and will void your warranty." (From Page # 3 of the Owners Manual)

Converion kit to natural gas.

I don't believe Weber makes a gas conversion kit for your model grill. I say this, because your model grill comes two ways, Natural Gas or Propane. This indicates to me, that there's more than just changing the burner orifices involved.

I can tell you this ... If you could convert it to Natural Gas, you would soon discover that the grill doesn't preheat as fast as with propane. Nor, will it maintain heat as well as propane, in an outdoor environment. Propane burns cleaner and hotter than Natural Gas in an outdoor environment.

Sure, it may seem like a hassle to refill and change the tank, but I can assure you, you won't be satisfied with it's performance.

Natural gas grill needed to convert to propane

You would need to do the old crank down and flip routine. Crank down all spuds, open shutters all the way and flip the regulator nut to the LP position.
I found an interesting video on youtube which features gas stove conversion. Gas range conversion is basically the same.

Converting Thermos Stainless Grill to natural gas

You have to install a conversion kit for it to work the way you want. The reason is because the orifice in either the valves or the main "jet" that feeds the burner tube has to be changed. Natural gas is really not as efficient as lp gas (propane) because it takes more natural gas to create the same btu output as propane.

In short, your grill will not work if you do not do the conversion. I am including a link that lists the conversion kit for your grill, you can order it there and you can download the assembly manual as well.
