Try removing the ink cartridges and the printhead. Take the printhead over to a sink without the ink cartridges in it run the printhead under hot water on both sides. insert the ink cartridges and let the outside of the printhead dry for a little bit and then put it back in the printer and try printing. You might need to run a couple Cleaning cycles on it to get the ink reflowing.

Best of luck...

This helped, but did not fix the white lines across the color printouts. At least it's printing now.

  • Anonymous Dec 06, 2010

I would then try replacing the printhead. Check Ebay and you might find them cheap there. They cost around $42.22 from Canon. The part number is QY6-0061-000

I just loaded new HP 94 and HP 97 ink cartridges in my HP 6210 Officejet. I went through the alignment process and received a sheet that had colors, but no black ink. The printout indicated the alignment...

Make sure all the protective tape on the Black cartridge has been removed. Also are the inks re-filled? I have seen many re-filled cartridges fail in a similar maner.

Full of black ink & need to print black. other colors are low, and it wont print!! I dont need the other colors

I ran this process two months ago when the printer was 4 months in use.
Try running through the manual cleaning process for the print heads.
1-press ink
2-choose cleaning
3-choose ALL. If that doesnt work try cleaning BLACK only.
when the cleaning finishes the machine will go back to standby mode automatically.

My Brother MFC-240C printer is causing me grief. It prints out in black as though it is out of black ink but the ink is full. The other colors print out ok. Any thougths?

If the colors print OK, you could try cleaning the black nozzles. (Your machine may allow you to clean just the black or the colors, or all the nozzles).

1) Press the <Ink> or <Ink management> key

2) Use <Up> or <Down> arrows to navigate to "Cleaning" and press <OK>

3) Use <Up> or <Down> arrows to navigate to color that needs cleaning, or "All" and press <OK>

4) The display will show "Cleaning" and "Please wait"

5) After completion, the printer should be ready

If the problem persists, brother advises that you may need to repeat the process up to four times. If still no results, contact brother customer service.

How to improve print quality Cleaning the print head
To ensure good print quality, the MFC will regularly clean the print head. You can start the cleaning process manually if needed. Clean the print head and ink cartridges if you get a horizontal line in the text or graphics on your printed pages. You can clean Black only or three colors at a time (Cyan/Yellow/Magenta), or all four colors at once.
Cleaning the print head consumes ink. Cleaning too often uses ink unnecessarily.
Caution
Do NOT touch the print head. Touching the print head may cause permanent damage and may void the print head’s warranty.
1 Press Ink.
2 Press or to select Cleaning.
Press Menu/Set.
3 Press or to select Black, Color or All.
Press Menu/Set.
The MFC will clean the print head. When cleaning is finished, the MFC will go back to standby mode automatically. If you clean the print head at least five times and the print has not improved, call Brother Customer Service (see Brother numbers on page i).
Checking the print quality
If faded or streaked colors and text appears on your output, some of the nozzles may be clogged. You can check this by printing the Print Quality Check Sheet and looking at the nozzle check pattern.
1 Press Ink.
2 Press or to select Test Print.
Press Menu/Set.
3 Press or to select Print Quality.
Press Menu/Set.
4 Press Color Start.
The MFC begins printing the Print Quality Check Sheet.
5 Check the sheet to see if the quality is OK by following these steps:
Color block quality check
The LCD shows:
6 Check the quality of the four color blocks on the sheet.
7 If all lines are clear and visible, press 1 (Yes), and go to Step 10.
OR
If you can see missing short lines as shown below, press 2 (No).
The LCD will ask you if the print quality is OK for black and three colors.
OK Poor
Is Quality OK?
1.Yes 2.No
Black OK?
1.Yes 2.N
8 Press 2 (No) for Black or three colors
with a problem.
The LCD shows:
Press 1 (Yes). The MFC will start cleaning the print head.
9 After cleaning is finished, press Color Start. The MFC will start
printing the Print Quality Check Sheet again and then return to
step 5.
10 Press Stop/Exit.

Colors don't print clearly and black lines run across the page

With Epson, You must use Genuine Epson Cartridges. This is what happens, when they are not.

Epson has it rigged, that way. Believe me, I have learned from experience.

If they are Genuine, then I suggest, use a new cartridge. See what happens.

Most of the Epson, are always on Sale, for a good price. It would cost most to take it to a repair shop.

Good Luck.....

I was having problems with a black line on the edge. I ran several clean cycles and got the line to disappear and now the colors have except for black have stopped working. HELP!

If you have carried out 4 to 5 head cleans, waited about 8 hours anddone another 3 or head cleans doing nozzle checks after each clean (asrecommended by the manual) and there is still no improvement then youwill need a third party head cleaning solution such as this one:
http://websites.uk-plc.net/UK_Inkjet_Cartridges_PLUS/products/Print_Head_Cleaner.htm
Other makes & brands are available just google "inkjet head cleaning solution" Hope this helps.

Pixma IP4000 Printer

OK, Canon will hate me for posting this!!!!!

Remove cartridges.
Remove print head.
Go to sink or tub (stianless steel, not pastic type), pick up roll of paper towel on the way.
Fold several layers of paper towel and place on flat surface.
Run HOT water till HOT.
Turn hot water to dribble.
Run hot water through print head, careful not to wet contacts.
When water is clear coming through print head, place print head on paper towel.
Repeat process until no colour on paper towel.
DAB print head (DO NOT WIPE) inside and out to dry.
You may wish to let print head air dry overnight but I replace it after drying.
Replace print head in printer and replace cartridges.
Start printing again
I do this on all my Canon printrs every 6 months
