Can you tell me whether this is a bios power on password, a hard drive lock password, or a windows administrative operating system password? I'm assuming that it is asking for a password when you say "locked".

How i can enble function key

HP laptops have the ability to lock the blue special function keys on, making numerical data entry easier on laptop models that do not have the room for dedicated numerical keypads. Because the key combination to lock the function keys is so simple, however, it is easy for those who wouldn't normally use this ability to do so accidentally. When the function keys are locked, pressing certain keys will result in numbers being typed rather than letters. Unlock the function keys to alleviate this issue.

Press the "Fn" and "Num Lk" keys on the keyboard simultaneously. The "Number Lock" indicator light should turn off, indicating that the letter keys will once again type letters when pressed. This combination should work on the majority of recent HP laptops. If it does not, try one of the alternate key combinations in this article's remaining steps. Press the "Fn" and "F11" keys simultaneously, then attempt to type a letter. If the combination does not work, continue to the next step. Press the "Fn" and "Scroll Lock" keys simultaneously, then attempt to type a letter. Continue to the next step if this does not work. Press the "Fn," "Scroll Lock" and "F11" keys simultaneously.

I have an Asus laptop Pro50G - the keyboard has numbers associated with certain letters e.g. J = 1 when using the function key. this morning after booting up, When I press these keys, instead of getting...

If there is a key on your keyboard that has the Fn key inside a lock icon, press Fn and that key and see if that unlocks the Fn key. You can also try pressing it normally, since your Fn key seems to have its own Fn-lock kind of setting.

If you dont have that kind of a key on your keyboard, this could be caused by an option in the BIOS. When booting up press the F2 key or whichever key your computer uses to open the BIOS. Once in the BIOS, look for an option that allows you to change the Fn key from a hotkey to something else, such as legacy.

One day I noticed after my kid played with my laptop dell insperion mini 1012 that my keys stopped wprking. The mouse woorks and when I searched in the control panel it says the divice is working. It has...

Look at the top right hand side of the keyboard. See if the NUMB LOCK and FUNCTION LOCK keys are lit. If one or both are lit hit the key to unlock it.

Pressing the WINDOWS KEY and the letter U will bring up ease of access window. Down the list you'll see use without keyboard and mouse. Click there and make sure it is not check marked. You may also need to turn off STICKY KEYS and FILTER KEYS and hit save to unlock it.

Try pressing the WINDOWS KEY and the letter L at the same time and see if that doesn't unlock it. If that locks it instead of unlocking it press it again to unlock it.

If none of these fixes the problem then UNPLUG the laptop from the adaptor. Turn it upside down and remove the battery. Wait one minute then put the battery back in. Reconnect the power supply and reboot the machine.

I have an Asus X58L laptop, For some reason there is a letters lock and I do not know how to unlock it. So if I press letter u it gives me 4, if I press p it gives me - and so on, unless I press Fn button

It sounds like you have the num lock switched on, most laptop keyboards are too small to have a separate numeric keypad so use the letter keys on the right side of the keyboard for this. (you should note numbers as well as the expected letters on the face of these keys).

To turn off the num lock, hold down the Fn key and press Ins. (located top right of the keyboard).
