Hello,
Check the website of your camcorder guess they have an updates softwares. this will resolve the issue, however if not then, call the repairman to check it personally. or fix it since maybe the preview option malfunctioning. or it was dislocate. disassembling is the good method to see some parts dislocation however it needs an expert repairman to personally check.

Instead of trying to reset the camcorder please try to use a different tape.
and use the same brand of tapes
before each use do a dry run.

Try reinstalling the firmware for it which should be able to be done from the manufacturer's website, since I don't know the make and model, I can't provide a link but would be happy to if you would provide the information

One simple way is to disconnect the battery. Leave it disconnected for about 5 minutes so all of the settings clear and then reconnect the battery. If it still is not responding when you try and review, fast forward o try and play the cassette you may need to send the camcorder in for service. Is it still under warranty? Good luck and if you have any other questions please let me know. Also, if you found my solution helpful please rate it when you get a chance.

Hi,

For a possible generic solution and assuming no hardware or firmware problem, pls try:
As some camcorders have a built-in RESET button, check for a RESET button. Please refer to the Instruction Manual supplied with the camera for specific information regarding the availability of this button and its function. If there is no RESET button available, follow through the steps below to reset the camcorder.
To Reset the Camcorder:
1. Turn off the Camcorder
2. Remove the battery from the Camcorder.
3. Remove the AC Power Adapter from the Camcorder.
4. Move the Camcorder power switch to the ON position.
Note: Leave the switch in the ON position for at least 15 seconds.
5. Move the Camcorder power switch to the OFF position.
6. Connect the AC Power Adapter to the Camcorder.
7. Turn on the Camcorder.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Tapes recorded on one camcorder very rarely play back satisfactorily on another machine - you will have to use your old camcorder to view them, or else get them transferred to DVD

I've had a similar problem, the solution to mine was that one of the tape heads had moved out of position by a fraction and so it was having problems tracking back through the tape footage... if you put in a tape that you know isn't blank and press play then hold fastforward to skip through the tape can you see footage on the tape fast forwarding? If so you need an engineer to realign the tape heads for you.

Won't stay powered on; misaligned heads

had simmilar issue with a hi8 cam. tapes will never be able to play right because the heads were mi-aligned from factory. if it comes back and the tape does same thing that the cameras you borrowed, you have to misalign the heads till the image and audio come back.

Tape shows last 5seconds of previous clip before recording next clip

I'm not familiar with your particular model, but many cameras of this type have a "quick review" function that allows you to see what was recorded for the last few seconds to verify that all is well. This is critical in broadcast situations where you only get one shot to get the video. This is a quick way to verify that all is working without having a blank gap in the recording caused by an inaccurate rew/play/stop/rec sequence.

Check the manual for this "review" function.

Blocks of noise

Don't know about the slow motion, but the noise is usually from dirty heads. Just like a cassette player it needs them cleaned periodically. Dip a Q-tip in rubbing alcohol and rub over the entire path the tape takes. You'll see a little block that actually reads the tape. Thats what you need to clean.

Make sure you eject the tape and remove the battery while the tape drive is open to clean it. Rubbing alcohol dries fast but give it an extra ten minutes and check it again.

Video recorder while the heads were dirty will not change however new video should be clean.

You may also have a bent tape carrier that is putting your video off track. It needs to be pushed or pulled to realign it.

It it's not the cause though, this can make playing back the earlier tapes more difficult since they will read and record in a slightly different part of the tape.

Good luck!

Problems with playback of HI8 tapes...

What's happening is that the tape in the cassette is being chewed on one side by the camera's tape transporting mechanism during playback, hence the distorted image and sound. The mechanism might be damaged (misalignment) or just dirty. Try not to play other tapes on this unit because they will become permanently damaged. The best way is to find another camcorder (if cleaning does not help). Note that some old cassettes of long recording time will exhibit this behavior more often because of thinner tape used.

Incompatible Tape

try a cleaning tape first - best not to rewind the cleaning tape because it will put back the crud previously removed ? into your heads and guides ( last tape to play is prime suspect ) ; - - digital heads wear faster than analog so a new set of heads is next possibility but if the cleaning tape works . . . retire your library soon as possible .

Transferring camcorder tapes to VHS

It depends on what speed these tapes were first recorded on. Maybe the camcorder your trying to use to play them back do not support this tape speed I have seen this in the past. Are these 8-MM or VHS-C tapes.. Also the tapes that were recored, maybe tyhere was something wrong with the tape path and was slightly out of alighnment. I had once a Sony 8-MM camcorder and tapes a lot of stuff and then gave them to someone to watch and they would not play. I tryed the tapes again in my camcorder and they worked great. I got a test tape and tryed it in my camcorder and it turned out the tape path alighnment was off, so i had to rerecord everything I had from one camcorder to DVD so i could fix my camcorder. Good Luck
