Refridgerator leaking water

I have a Magic Chef Refriderator that leaks water. It never did it until I defrosted it. Can you tell me what to do about this

I have a problem with the defrost unit. I have a Magic Chef side-by-side unit that was purchased in 1995.

Regardless of temperature setting, the back of the side freezer unit will eventually frost up. As frost accumulates on the back wall of the freezer, inside temperatures begin to warm up. When the inside termperature approaches 50 degrees I will turn off the refrigerator and thaw out the frost on the back wall of the freezer. Once everything is thawed I turn the refrigerator back on. The freezer remains clear of frost for about 2-3 weeks then frost accumulates again. This cycle has been repeated for a couple of years and much food has gone bad.

Each time I thaw the unit the water pan at the bottom of the fresh food side will fill. The pan will collect water even if all of the ice has been removed from the freezer.

The fan behind the back freezer wall is working. However, a narrow 1/4" strip hangs from the bottom of the fresh food door. This could be a magnetic strip that holds the door gasket.

Air flow from the freezer to fresh food side appears to enter at the bottom, is forced up along the sides of the glass shelves, and recyled to the freezer at the top where the freezer fan is located. At one point, I thought overcroweded shelves were blocking the migration of air from the bottom along the sides to the top. However, clearing the shelves did not correct the problem.

I've discounted leakage of cold air through a leak in the door gasket as the problem. I speculate it just doesn't account for enought loss to be the problem, or explain the pathology of the problem. However, I can feel a bit of air flow at the bottom of the fresh food side door.

Instead, I have thought the problem was with the defrost unit itself. I guess there are three major components to the defrost unit. I tried putting a circuit tester on the defrost components, but did not get results I could interpret with confidence.

Any thoughts on diagnostic testing would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bob

You will have to check the defrost drain in the freezer by removing either the back or bottom of the freezer . Thaw ice if found in freezer and check to see if the drain hole is clear. Do not use anything to chip at the ice. Clear ice by warming it with warm water or possibly a hair dryer.

Magic chef model number CSB2323AR seems to be a defrost problem. Water accumulates at bottom of freezer then ices up. Is there a drain pan on this model?

The water is from the melted frost of the defrost cycle. The drain at the bottom of the back wall of the freezer is blocked so instead of the water draining into the pan where it will evaperate,it's pooling on the freezer floor and freezing, in many case when the floor indent is full the water will leak onto the floor.By pulling the refrigerator out from the wall, there will be a tube behind the service panel on the lower right side when looking at it from the rear, that tube can be removed and cleared, then clear the nozzle it connects to inside the freezer.

I hope this helps you to stop the leak,
Gene

I have a Magic Chef CTB1921AR 18.5 cu ft. I always have water dripping out between the crisper drawers can you tell me what to do?

I am pretty sure you are having a defrost drain blockage problem. Most defrost every eight hours and over a period the drain line that comes down from freezer into a cup like object top middle and back of the fresh food section. If blocked by gunk or ice you will see trails of liquid leaking down the rear wall of fresh food compartment until it reaches the crisper drawers. Here is an example Click here=> Whirlpool Leak Photo taken by TechnicianBrian He has been around a good bit and deserves credit for his contributions. Here is another way to make this look more simple in clip below. TechnicianBrian.com And in this photo are several parts listed in photo group #1 were it is most likely running down the wall=> Magic
Chef CTB1921AR fresh food section.
If you still have questions please ask and rate me if I was able to explain this well enough. Every refrigerator is made different so these are
examples only. The key is to find if ice or just gunk has blocked you defrost
drain. Unplug and then remove the rear panel in back of freezer. We need to see
if the water is overflowing the condensate drain tray or if the blockage is in
the turn the drain leads down back of your refrigerator. This is a common tip
so I will be placing this post and add as we go new ideas listed in Sea Breeze
Tips Section. If you run into any problems along the way of repair please let
me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Water leaking underneath the appliance

It can be that the deforst tray is overflowing due to excessive frosting of the auto defrost.
So look into the rear bottom and remvoe tray to drain out.
If this is not he case then a possible leak inthe defrosting tray on the evaporator.
