Question about Samsung TX-R3080 30" TV

Open Question

Samsung TXR3079WH Power Failure

The tv is less than 3 years old and turns itself off after only being on for a few minutes. this was our first HD purchase in anticipation of 2/09. All other TV's in the house are 15+ years old and working fine. Did not think I would be replacing the samsung before the others. Help.

TV was turned on and then turned off by itself and would not power back up. We have never had any problems before with the TV.

TV is probably 5 years old now.  It turns itself off after just a few minutes and takes a good half an hour before it will turn back on again.  Then it only turns itself back off after just a few minutes.

SOURCE: 52 HD Samsung tv turns off

I have the same problem with my 56" HD Samsung. It shuts off automatically and then on the power button the word Lamp is light up in green. Sometimes I can turn it back on but other times it won't and I have to wait a bit. It's been embarassing a couple times when people were over for a movie. I believe it might be some kind of overheating problem but would like someone to confirm this.

SOURCE: Samsung 50" DLP TV turns itself off

My Samsun DLP turned off and “Screen Freeze”. Fixed it. How? Well, after reading lots of posts I almost purchased a new $136 bulb but decided to give it one more look. Turns out there’s a small switch inside the TV that needs to be depressed at all times. Samung put this switch there to turn the TV off if the rear panel is removed to protect people from harmful UV radiation. I just moved into a new apartment so it must have become unsettled.

I took my back plate off, pushed the button up and down several times then carefully replaced the panel. Note, the panel has a sort of plastic finger jutting out. Make sure this finger is firmly pressing the switch down. If not, wrap some tape around it to make the finger fatter. Dude, use black electrical tape so you don’t start a fire, OK?

So, my TV came back on and I danced a little jig in the living room. Then I started switching channels and everything froze when I got to channel 68. This didn’t look good. I read more posts about people getting this and simply returning the TV. Oh no! Well, I unplugged the TV several times and got bupkis. Frustrated, I finally pulled the power strip off the wall and plugged the TV into the wall. I got a blue screen and when I switched the channel back to 5 it started working. Danced a little jig. Plugged the antenna power into the wall, got better reception, channel surfed to 68 again (don’t ask), and got screen freeze . . yet again. Why? Unplugged the TV several times and got bupkis.

Then the bulb in my head finally went on. My Samsun does NOT like channel 68 but I could NOT get it back to channel 5. Every time I plugged the TV back in it turn on at channel 68 and froze. Ah, unplugged the antenna again, got the blue screen . . again . . and I was able to change the channel back to 5. Danced a little jig.

Hope this helps sooooooomeone.

Samsung TV...Turn on tv, it operates for maybe a minute, then shuts itself off and has a consistant clicking pattern, like a relay switch. Sometimes turns itself back on

Not knowing the specific model for your Samsung TV and how old it is, I can only offer this possibility because I've encountered what sounds like the same problem. Certain models of Samsung HDTVs around 3-4 years back have a design problem with their power supplies - they put in the wrong size capacitors (aka "Caps"). After a few years, the capacitors fail, and the power supply also fails. I think it's possible to replace individual capacitors, but most likely you will have to replace the power supply. Unfortunately if it's out of warranty, it will cost several hundred dollars, especially for a home / onsite visit. There is a visible symptom - from 2-6 capacitors on the power supply board will bulge out, as shown in this pic:digizen.jpg
You might try calling Samsung customer service and tell them you are aware of problems with their power supply design, and try to get them to repair the TV for free, especially if you are just out of warranty.

Tv turns itself off after less than a minute or if lucky after a few minutes or more power light stays on even though tv turns off

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

I own a Mitsubishi HD 1080 series HD TV; MODEL#VS-50111. Recently the TV shut itself off after a few minutes of operation. I unplugged it and after a few hours, plugged it in and it came on for about 5...

I believe it is going to be a major repair and I would hesitate to invest much money into it. I think the age of this set is older than 5 years. The VS model series were manufactures before the WS model series and they have been around for 8 years or so. Never the less, parts availability is getting tougher. If your pain thresh hold is 300.00 or 400.00
go for it. If not, check out new sets.
Hope this helps,

Maybe the backlight is out, can you see a picture when shining a flashlight on the screen. if yes you have either a bad inverter power supply or bad screen (panel).
