You'll need to find out what soundcard or motherboard you have and download drivers from the manufacturers website.

You should find the manufacturers name and model number printed on the board.

Brought a hp compaq desktop computer with a wiped hard drive. What is needed to restore it?

Check the certificate of authenticity affixed to the case. Obtain the appropriate version of windows (Windows 7 versions can be downloaded from digital river). Boot from the disk. Follow prompts, insert key when prompted.
The key will allow installation, but will not activate via net. You will need to do this by phone.
You would then need to search the vendor site for the drivers and install. Usual order is, chipset, sound, ethernet/lan, video, wireless if fitted. Some boards require AHCI drivers as well.

My computer is compaq pc model CQ3140IX with windows xp. i want to install my sound drive but your site is providing sound driver only for vista and windows 7 and not for windows xp............... so what...

Windows update will often install or update sound drivers. If this doesn't work go to this page and view the help videos towards the bottom of the page. If that doesn't help go to this guide and see if the solution is there. HP provides several different types of solutions. You may also be able to find the realtek driver here at the realtek site. If you install this driver than try Windows update again and see if it gives you an updated driver. Provided you didn't find the driver at Windows Update to begin with.

Hope this helps!

No sounds on my laptop, technician said restart the cmos bios

if you mean that you do not have the sound device present in the device manager ...this is a correc advice ..and it is done by pressing the F2 on start ..and when it gets into the Bios settings ..look for optimal factory defaults ...activate them and save changes by pressing f10 ...after that the computer will see the sound device ..and ask for the driver ..
the driver will be on the disk that came with the laptop ..or on the recovery disk ..or just download it from the manufacturer site..
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R179413.exe
this is the driver if you are running windows XP...for vista reply me to look for it if you do not have ..but usually the drivers for vista came with the recovery cd or on the mother board cd if it is an on board device ..

Please check if the sound driver you're installing is compatible / supports the Windows Vista Ultimate OS, or it is for XP or lower version OS, if not, then you have to get the updated Driver of your sound card which is compatible to Windows Vista OS. best regards

Which drivers used when install vista in compaq Sg2044il

Don't upgrade unless you are planning on installing a new graphics board (VGA). The specs on this PC show that it has an Intel 865G graphics solution. There are no Vista drivers for this chip-set. It is possible that the XP drivers will work but I wouldn't count on it. Probably the same goes for the sound board. Not worth it. Besides that XP is better than Vista anyway. If you want to upgrade, wait for Windows 7 to be released, then take the money you would have spent on this PC and put it towards a new core2 duo or core2 quad. According to the beta testing, Windows 7 will be MUCH better than Vista. I think the release date supposed to be sometime around the middle of 2009? Don't quote me on that. Hope this helped. If so, please remember to rate me. Thanks.

System Restore (Destructive) GM5084 Gateway Media Center w/ XP

what operating system disk do you have? xp, xp pro, vista?

Dec 26, 2008 | Gateway GM5084 PC Desktop

Just trying to restore back to factory settings

take a genuine microsoft windows xp / vista install disc and put it in the drive. Reboot the system and boot off the cd. The windows setup will start. Delete the existing partition using the wizard, then install windows to the blank area.

Everything on the laptop will be wiped out, replaced by a blank installation of windows xp / vista.

If you don't have one, you'll have to buy or find a copy.

Download from vista to xp i have acer aspire 5100 laptop

You would need to back up your documents, pictures ect.
Format (a secure wipe would be best) your hard drive. Make sure it is fornated to NTFS.
Run/Install windows XP (remember you will have to have a licence key since the laptop came with vista)

Download all the drivers for this notebook from: http://www.acerpanam.com/flex/acerdrivers/bin/drivers.html?CFID=2232097&CFTOKEN=61504601
(best to have these on a flash drive)

and then install them.
