For some reason, these types of headphones don't like to work in both A2DP Stereo headphone mode and headset profile. I know that every computer I've dealt with thus far sees both profiles as two separate devices, and since the mic is tied to the headset profile, the mono audio comes with it. Simply put, I'm not sure that there's a way to use both on a computer. I'm also pretty sure that most phones toggle between profiles when applicable. Best I can guess is that the problem is hardware related, not software.

HOW DO i USE THE MICROPHONE ON A PC?

If you have two plugs on your headphones, one is for listening, one for mic. If you only have one plug, you need an adapter to use the microphone, one like this:

Ac-648 mic not working

Either you have connected to the wrong socket on your computer, or the controls on your computer have not been set up. For example the microphone circuit is switched off or set too low for recording.

Why do I only hear static

Hi Cathy.. it sounds like you might be connected to the wrong jacks instead of the output that the headphones need.

Most high quality stereo headphones have a single 1/4" stereo plug that would readily plug into a 1/4" jack on the front of the stereo labeled "PHONES" or HEADPHONES".

Many lower quality "computer headphones" or headsets have two 1/8" plugs. One is often black or red and is for an included microphone that may be a boom type (shown below) connected to one of the speakers or an "in-line" type built into the cord itself. The headphone speakers in the headset get their signal from the other plug - which is usually green; but could be any color really. There should be 3 metal parts on the stereo headphone plug. The tip, the middle ring and the bottom ring. Many times the mic is mono (not stereo) and only has only a tip and a bottom ring on the plug. You can see stereo headphone and microphone plugs he picture below:

Computer Headphones or "Headset" with mic and phone plugs.

Your Yamaha stereo will probably NOT have 1/8" jacks to directly plug the headphone into. You can buy an adapter that you would plug your headphones into and then plug the adapter into the 1/4" jack on the stereo. One is pictured below:

Front and rear views of a "1/4" to 1/8" Stereo Adapter Plug" The front plugs into the stereo and the the smaller 1/8" headphones plug into the rear.

I hope this helps & good luck!

When I talk no one can hear me but I hear them

If your X3's microphone is working, you should be able to hear yourself in the headset when you talk into it. Plug the chat-controller cable in both the headset and the controller, then talk into the X31 mic. Can you hear yourself in the headset? If yes, then the microphone is OK but you probably need a new chat-controller cable. If not, then the microphone may be broken and you should contact Turtle Beach tech support at support@turtlebeach.com.

Everything works except chat

You probably need a replacement chat-controller cable. Those are available from the Turtle Beach website (look for Replacement Parts) or from their tech support (support@turtlebeach.com).

Headphones w/ built-in microphone. Can both work with one jack?

the simple answer is No. The long answer is your laptop/computers headphone output and mic input are completely separate on the sound card. Meaning there are no tie to the audio in on the heaphone lines, and vise versa on the mic/line in. Sorry to disappoint.

Can't get my computer to discover my s9 headphones. There are no other BT devices connected. The blue light is on...

What bluetooth adapter are you using on your computer? Get the manual for the S9 from the Motorola web site: it will tell you that the blue light is related to mono voice/microphone, and flashing green is all about stereo musioc, no microphone.
So what are you trying to do with your S9?
On your computer it can be hands-free, or a stereo headset. It has two personalities, and you should see the two modes in your bluetooth configuration screen on the PC.
From what I see in the Motorola manual, if you click the right ear button for "Play/pause" it is supposed to kick the headset into A2DP stereo playback.
