My son in his wisdom unloaded my printer program, originally the disc that was with the printer didnt work correctly from new and had to contact lexmark to set up printer. I was using a usb cable to connect to computer, but this doesnt seem to be working now, the prompt says when I try to print, that this printer is not connected to computer. Must add, am not very good at understanding some of the jargon as am 60. By the way the printer is a lexmark z1380 model.
I don't think these do LPT printing but if it is, ensure you are using a bidirectional cable.
Otherwise, check the USB cable, and if you do reinstall; be sure that you didn't just put the printer back in the same USB port it was originally in or worse, leave the printer attached the whole time. Windows XP especially keeps driver files and settings specific to a particular USB device associated with USB port information in the registry, you may be putting whatever setting was messed up right back in.

I have been having this problem of 'not connected' while everything is ok. One moment it gives that message and another moment it prints perfectly. Now it quit printing altogether. I decided to uninstall and then reinstall and that is not working either. I just can´t get it reinstall, so now I´m without a printer. It´s an x4270
