I have a Kenwood stereo integrated amplifier R-42XL that I bought 25 years ago. It has served me very well and still does intermittently. Sometimes when I plug into the mains the red light on the volume controller of the Amp comes on and associated devices - radio, tape cassette player and DVD player - all function as normal when selected through the appropriate button on the amp. However, most of the time, the red light does not come on and none of the devices work. If I repeatedly turn off and on at the mains, sometimes it works. Can the amp be fixed?

Our company has always said anything can be fixed its only the price that varys i think you have a fault in the switching mech as the unit is 25yrs old they didnt use digital switching back then i think your unit has the old spring loaded power button the problem is that the small spring behind the latch comes loose after many years and needs to be set correctly so take it to a shop and see if they know about spring switch resetting to see if this is deffinitly the problem push the button in hard if the power comes on but goes of as you realease it theres ya fault

best of luck

please take the time to rank my reply

Testimonial: "The spring still seems to work so I suspect this is not the problem, but I will check it out. Thank you."

I tried pushing the spring switch but the amp didn't come on. The problem is something else. Thanks for the idea though.

How do i get a free service manual download of a kenwood ka-127 model stereo integrated amplifier in any digital format?

I doubt you will be able to find a digital copy, and Kenwood dropped their home audio line 2+ decades ago. I probably have a hard copy of the manual, as I was a Kenwood Factory Service Center for over 25 years, however, it is not free. If you would like more information, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. Thank you.

Are they good

The brand of Rockwood, I'm sorry to say, is not good. They get the name by robbing "Rock" from Rockford Fosgate, and "wood" from Kenwood, to be misleading. If you have big plans for your stereo, i would not recommend using them. Having said all that, they might do the trick and last for years if you are not the type to abuse them. I have a Road Gear amplifier I bought from WalMart 10 years ago that I refused to toss out and now have it in my work truck. Again, the brand may not be good but sometimes specific items are. Good Luck.
