Probably need more information but guessing its a top loader and the motor is turning but the drum is not spinning but the water is being emptied? If that is the case it is probably a worn out coupling that needs replaced. The pump shaft runs through the gear of the pump body and also through a coupler. The coupler will eventually wear to the point the motor shaft just spins inside the coupler. If it is a front loader there is probably a V belt that is broken or damaged.
The number one thing wrong when that type top load washer makes noise and does not spin, is a broken coulper between the motor and the gearcase. This tip i wrote will show how to replace the coupler...follow it to take apart the washer to see if the coupler is broken,if it is my tip will also be helpful to replace the coupler. http://www1.fixya.com/support/r10293994-whirlpool_made_washer_not_agatating
there are some springs that help hold the tub even as it spins also make sure that the washer is level check front to back side to side and corner to corner if it is unlevel they will be out of balance in high speed spin
