Hitachi 50V710 Red Problem

I have a 50V710 rear projection TV and quite recently there is a large red spot when the picture is black in the center of the screen. Now in the center of the TV there are streaky highlights that blur the screen. Also, whenever something is red on the screen it melts and distorts together. This only happens with red color.

Please help

Had this hunk of silver junk for 3 years now. After year 2 it had a huge red blob through the middle of the screen, but it only appeared on black/dark scenes at first. It's year 3 now the whole tv screen is red and it also has a nifty double character affect, it makes you feel cross-eyed and want to vomit. The parts and repair (explained below) or more than the TV was purchased for. Why is it that if a TV breaks you are better off throwing it away and getting a new one. Good job Hitachi on making a big expensive peice of ****!

I thought I would post just to let you know my situation. I also have a Hitachi 50V710 and have also had the problem of a big red hue covering almost my entire screen for the last three months or so.

For some background first, I bought this TV in August '06 and it worked flawlessly for approximately two years. Then the bulb went out and I had to replace it. Again the picture was perfect and stayed that way for the next eight or nine months until the red hue showed up. It first started in the center of the screen and has since expanded to cover almost the entire screen.

I had been searching the web to see if I could figure out what the problem was when I found FixYa. I did some reading and wasn't really liking what I was reading. I saw to call Customer Relations (800-654-7013) instead of Customer Service and did just that about three weeks ago. Talked to a guy named Bob that seemed to be fairly nice. He told me to have a tech come look at it and then call them back. I couldn't find a service tech in this area that could come out so I finally called Sears and had them send a tech out (we bought the TV at Sears). He came out today and before both feet were in the door he was telling me I had a bad light engine. He looked up the part and let me know a new light engine would cost $1335 and labor to install it would be $202 for a grand total of $1651.

As soon as he left I got on the phone and called Customer Relations back and let them know a Sears tech had verified that the light engine was bad. The first words out of her mouth were "ok we will get a new one sent out". She said she would send it to me and I would just need to contact the tech again once I had it and have them come install it for me. Of course the labor will be my responsibility. Frankly after what I had been reading about everyone's dealings with Hitachi's customer relations, I was completely shocked. I was actually expecting to have to do some arguing and pleading my case that I should be able to get a new one.

I just wanted to post to let everyone know that as of today, they still seem to be sending out new light engines at no cost to the TV owner. It really seems that they are sending or not sending on a case by case basis and I haven't been able to make a connection as to the what determines whether they will or they won't.

The part you need is the LC47 Light Engine. Part #UX23682 or UX23682D or 23682DR. It's a big part and it''s expensive ... search for a while, and you might be able to find one cheap. The last one I saw for a decent price was $400 for a refurbished one. They're normally $1200 to $1400 new, but they are often out of them and on back order ... Gee, I wonder why?

Poor picture no color

OUCH! LARGE DARK SPOT IN CENTER IS NOT GOOD FOR PROJECTION TV. YOU BURNT THE TUBES. THE LOSS OF COLOR IS THE ROOT CAUSE SOUNDS LIKE A DEFLECTION CIRCUIT PROBLEM. THE TIMING FEEDBACK IS USED TO SYNC THE COLOR CIRCUIT. IF THE TUBES LIGHT WITHOUT DEFLECTION THEY BURN THE CENTER PHOSPHOR COATING INSIDE.

Small red dot in center of 53" Hitachi projection tv

hi, not good news it`s probably a burn in on your red crt (picture tube), tv has to have back completely removed, which means top and bottom covers, (carefull with the top cover it`s heavier than u think, has mirror bolted to inside), turn on tv just long enough to light up all 3 crt`s to identify the red one, turn set off & look into red lens,(may need flashlight) if you see any black specks in center of tube it`s burnt and has to be replaced, be advised u will see gnats, ect. inside but your looking for specific speck, if no visible burn mark have tv man come out, otherwise it`s very pricey, hope this helps and not crt, video-tek

Yellow spot in center of screen

I have recently developed the same yellow spot problem on my Sony KDF-E50A10  50" LCD television...a large yellow circular hue that takes up the bottom center of the picture and is especially noticeable against a white background.  It has been diagnosed as the optical block (light engine) and without an extended warranty Sony refuses to assist with the repair cost.  Repair was estimated at $1,100 plus tax and travel fees to my home.  So you see, it is not only a Hitachi problem.  You would think they could build something that would last more than two years considering the initial cost of over two grand for the TV !

Hitachi 52 projection tv

use the advanced options page and reset the factor blue and red convergence defaults then do re apply the auto color defaults color at first it seemed very red (which is good because red was the missing factor in the green picture) but after reseting all the color and tints to the normal ranges I then reset the color auto correct again and all seems fine.
