We ended up fixing the problem by using the Fn key along with one of the others in the top row - can't remember which one worked because we tried them all and suddenly it was working. We're going to look into getting one of those wireless meeses too - thank you!

About every three days my cursor locks up for 10 seconds or so and then is fine for 15 to 30 seconds before it locks up again. During the lock up time the task graph shows a 99% use of my RAM (at 1.256 GB) and during the whole time, even when the cursor is working, my bottom CD drive (read only) will not open and the light will not even blink but the top one works fine. To fix it, I reboot and then the bottom CD driver will work. ( I have done all the de-frag and clean ups plus dumped a lot of unneeded programs.) Dell XP3 2.33 GB - 1.256 GB RAM Steve D.

This is generally cuased by a software conflict. You can eliminate this by purchasing an external mouse. Walmart has a nice little wireless Microsoft mouse for about $20.

How do i get my cursor to move

Do you mean your Mouse cursor, or typing cursor? Is your mouse powered on if it is a battery powered wireless? If it is a plug and play usb then try different usb ports. If it is the typing cursor make sure you can do something else on the computer and that it is not locked up. If these solutions don't help, please supply more information.

The cursor will not move and I cannot use the laptop at all.

The cursur moves from the sensory pad, if the pad went out the cursur will not move.. I would start by installing an external wireless mouse or even a basic plug in mouse to the usb port and see if you can cntrol the cursor then. Cheap wireless mouses with a small included usb donggle can be used in place of the sensory pad cursor

Cursor is jumping while operating it

Check the touchpad driver settings, (Control Panel, Mouse, touchpad tab) see if there is not an option for TOUCHCHECK, PALMCHECK or so. These options disable the touchpad momentarily while typing.

My laptop cursor is frozen

Make sure that the power button for the touchpad wasn't pressed and disabled the touchpad. If after pressing it once you still cannot move the cursor, perform a restart and then when it is powered up and connected to the internet check websites for a free firmware update.

Mouse pad cursor doesn't work

try using the FN key with the monitor/VGA output selection changer(usually F5). You will see a little icon that looks like two monitors. Mouse control may have been changed to the external monitor connection. See if pressing FN(function) and holding that key and then pressing the monitor key will bring back your mouse indicator. You may need to do it with the projector connected and on.
