Dell latitude D600 problem

When i attempt to turn the computer on,the three lights to the left of the power button flash once and then the center one flashes nine times and the computer shuts off.On the rare occasion it did start,it comes up to a message that states it was shut down abnormally and offers to start it in the last known good mode, but when i try it,the computer freezes. The majority of the time it won`t get that far.

The same , it rarely starts and if only for about 30 seconds an than it goes dead. With or whitout the battery in place. It does'n charche the battery and a new power adoptor did'nt solve the problem

The flashing caps lock is an indication of a failed POWER on Self-Test (POST)

Remove the HDD, Battery, AC adapter, RAM and Modem

Press and hold power button for 15 seconds

Connect AC, see if you get any beep codes. If you do, power off, disconnect power, insert RAM, connect AC and reboot. If system boots, power off and add hard drive. If it doesn't, replace the motherboard.

If the system boots with RAM, but fails to boot with HDD, replace HDD 1st.

When the caps lock button flashes by itself from 7-15 times:

This indicates a memory problem. Open the small panel on the bottom of the notebook and swap the memory in it's slots.

Here's a link for Dell's diagnostic codes. You may need to contact Dell directly for this, however, in most cases I've dealt with, this is usually a memory or battery problem. Try starting without the battery, then without one or the other memory chip. Dell machines require at least one memory chip in order to run. It is possible that this is a hard drive issue, it's rare, but possible.

This is do to the jack were the power button board plugs into the motherboard, i see this alot on d600 and d610, the lights come on for about 3 sec then computer turns off..

this can be fixed by resoldering the plug to the motherboard but most will say you need a new mother board the leads are small and tight together..
