Question about Kenmore 62802 Electric Dryer
I dried some clothes the other night and when I went out to take the clothes out the next morning the dryer was hot on the top and in the back of the control panel. I unplugged the dryer and took the top off, took the vent out of the back and got as much of the lint I could out of those areas. Some of the lint was black as if it had been burnt. In front of the dryer drum where the inner lint trap is located (once you open the door) I could reach down to the bottom of the dryer and pull out more lint, alot more lint!
So today I tried the dryer again and after about 15 minutes on high setting it got hot again and started working fine. Or so I thought..... An hour or so later I felt the top again and had the same problem...HOT! Why is the dryer staying hot when it's not even on???!!!
The heater has failed and/or is shorting to the case. Remove the rear panel. The heater is on the right side, attached to the heater housing with two screws.
