Thank you so much for your help with this. You saved us a lot of money!

  • jaclyn369 Feb 28, 2009

same. I suppose one need to put the tront panel back in place to let it continue? 'cause I did not put it back, the washer runs fine until it displayed the same error code(before I could not even get it started)

  • Anonymous Apr 26, 2009

Bravo, same problem -- exactly. Baby's socks gone missing, found in the trap just before the pump as described in the solution. Great job.

If it's not draining properly and shows this F02 Code there may be a simple solution. Take the bottom front panel off (it has 3 screws.) There will be an off white circular plastic thing there. Resembles the top to a cannister. Twist it off. There will be a good bit of water if it hasn't drained properly. I put a cookie sheet under it to catch most of the water. Once you completely unscrew the top off hopefully your problem will be right there. Unbelievable...we found 2 socks, a glove, a bead, coins and don't ask me but there was a nail in there as well. I was so happy that we didn't need to pay a repair man.

Everyone, thank yopu so much for your excellent advice on how to solve the Maytag F02 code. We did exactly as you instructed and once we unscrewed the top to the white drain canister, we also found a number of those color absorbing sheets, two of my son's pencils, as well as a fair amount of gray gunky substance. Once we removed the debris, the machine functioned normally. Once quick tip to add--have a pail or plastic pitcher handy to catch all of the drain water that shoots straight out at you once your remove the white canister top.

This was an AMAZING help!! Thank you to the pioneer of this solution. I cannot stress enough that you MUST put a thick towel or something underneath for the water. Mine was loaded and there was tons of stuff in there and the smell......I didn't see where anyone noticed the smell but it was awful. There was a sock, money, nerf bullets, glass, toys and multiple unidentifiable objects in there. SUPER TIP!!!!

Hi, I just want to say Thank you, thank you and thank you again, I almost called a repairman, but thanks to you guys I have managed to save some money I did not have in the first place. I followed your instructions to the letter and what do you know; I am ashame to say that we found socks pens, moneys quarters, nickles, dimes and pennies as well. Plus a big glob of lint, and Gods only knows what else. Then I cleaned around the area where the water spilled over, put everything back together and the machine washed beautifully. I just want to say thanks and I appreciate all the support. I believe that this is the best purpose for the internet, positive communication and people helping people. We are truly one when it comes to sharing and caring. this is worth more than money! Thank you friend

Excellent advice for the F02 error code. This was spot on and super easy to fix. In fact, I'm surprised it's not in the Maytag manual. The only thing I'd add is that you need a Torx 20 bit to remove the three screws.

  • dschane Nov 13, 2014

This advice was spot on, thanks. It's so easy, it ought to be in the Maytag manual. The only thing I'd add is that you need a Torx 20 bit to get the three screws out.

We had this problem after our baby's socks started going missing in the wash cycle. We found them in two places: 1. Underneath the rubber gasket of the front-loading drum, and, 2. In the drain line, but not in the hose that comes out of the back of the machine. The manual and website make no mention of the three torx screws on the front, lower panel that can be removed, exposing a drain that can then be unscrewed (be prepared for A LOT of water to come out of here if you haven't been able to get it to drain). Inside here we found the culprit baby socks, removed them, ran a fan on the exposed electronics over night to dry them out, and put it back together. Problem solved. It's unbelievable that this information is not in the manual but had to be googled from sites like this. Hope this helps someone else and prevents an expensive service call. Maytag, you ****!

We weren't able to find the screws either! We had to LIFT the washer about 3 inches off the floor to find them in the front, under the front panel.

This was a great fix but we had some issues you'll want to note. I needed a lot more than a cookie sheet! Have a lot of towels and a shop vac to **** out the water when you let the drain go, if nothing else, just to be safe. Also, if you don't have the plug aligned just right when you reassemble, you will have a leak. Test it before you button the thing back up and start you're bleach load:)

I stopped the error from coming up by cleaning out the drain hose ... I took the hose off the machine and pulled it out of the drain - it was seriously blocked with all sorts of build-up. Luckily I did not need to install a stint or do a complete by-pass (buy a new hose). All I did was flush it out with a lot of water from a hose. It is clear to me that we use way too much fabric softener and a smooth drain line would be better than the line supplied with the washing machine.

I had this same problem with my kids' socks (although they're not babies, they're 4 & 5). To prevent it from happening, put the small items in a laundry bag. One of those mesh ones that has a zipper.

Great fix! I would suggest taking the pump assembly loose from the three rubber feet and pulling it forward so you can easily and mess free drain it! Otherwise you WILL have water to clean up. Also, don't unscrew the cap all the way, do it partially and you will save yourself some clean up as well.

We have a Maytag DUET set and the washer recently started with the F02 error. I removed the 3 screws (7mm hex head), one at each end and one in the middle. The lower front panel just below the door; the screws are at the bottom of the lower front panel.

Sure enough the white removed easily and it was full of stuff...coins, pens, hair tie, cloth coin purse.... I cleaned it out, reassembled and am running my first load as I write this. Part of the load are the towels that soaked drainage water from the white tube thingy.

Reduce the amount of water that comes out of the trap by using a cup and scooping out as much as you can from the main part if the washer. You will be shocked how much is in the tub and what remains is maybe a cookie sheet and a bath towel worth of water.

The comments above are pretty much spot on. I started having the exact issue after using the washer for around seven years and never cleaning out the trap. I think the amount of water that comes out when you open the trap has to do with how badly blocked it is, and if it is draining at all or not. I found about five or six baby socks, and bunch of bobby pins and some change, but did not have too much water coming out when I opened it up. I also found a step by step youtube video showing you exactly how to do this. The whole procedure took me about five minutes.

Omgosh.....I randomly searched to see what the error code meant... Found this thread. Amazing! Washer is fixed. However..... My basement was flooded. Be prepares there can be a lot more water In there than a cookie sheet and towels can handle! And another thing how in the heck to socks get down there?!?

One thing I'd like to add: Make sure to clean out the rubber gasket before re-installing filter assembly. It builds up a lot of sediment and seal might be compromised if put back without wiping off any sediment. Just use warm tap water.

Now that I know how much junk can accumulate, I'd also suggest this clean up be done regularly (maybe once a year?).

The only thing I can stress to the reader...a cookie sheet will not cut it for water....I had 6 towels ready and it still was a mess. Be prepared for alot of water to pour out as soon as you take cap off. However...socks hair ties erasers and other objects were all in there. The odor was awful to so that should help with those items no longer there...

Maytag washer throwing fault code 21

An "F21" or "F02" error code is indicative of a slow draining cycle, normally caused by a clogged or kinked drain hose. If an "F21" or "F02" error code appears, check the drain hose on the back of your washer to ensure that it is not clogged or bent. Once the drain hose has been unblocked, the error code should disappear and the machine drain properly. However, if you have a high efficiency washing machine and the error code continues to appear, make sure you are using the correct detergent; because high efficiency machines use much less water than traditional washing machines, they require the use of a low sudsing detergent. Traditional detergents may produce too many suds, which can block the machine's drain hose and lead to slower draining cycles.

Gives code f02 and sud

Hello,

The F2 error codes means LONG DRAIN TIME and the suds code the washer detected water in tub after normal alloted drain time...so basically the F2&SUDS means the same thing. A lot of times when it does not drain fast enough, its caused by a blocked filter on the pump being biult up with debris. This tip i wrote will show ya how to clean the pump filter.

Hello My Maytag black front loader washer is displaying an error code of F02. Do you know a fix for this error code? Thank you

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

F02 is a drain error in your washer, if the unit is unable to drain then after 4 minutes it will display suds and then F02. The first thing that should be done is cleaning the drain hose and the drain pump filter, you can take out three torx screws from the bottom front panel and then clean the area completely, lift up the cap to clean the filter. If the error returns then check the drain pump if it is not working then replacing the pump is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

F02

The f02 error code is caused when the unit control thinks there is still water in the tub after it has tried to drain. If the washer is full of soap suds it will also display an f02 error code. You will need to use only name brand HE detergent. If your washer is not draining the water out you will need to clean the pump filter. I have provided the instructions below. Run the washer in a drain and spin to ensure the pump is running. If the washer has no water and no suds the problem will be either the pressure switch or a plugged pressure hose. To check the pressure hose you will need to remove the top and remove the hose from the pressure switch.

Suds then F02 over and over and over again

Most likely (it happened to many owners), you get the FO2 code, because some small items like socks got sucked into drain system.

Error codes

I own a HE3 kenmore elite for 4 years now and the troubleshooting codes are: SUD When excessive suds are detected, a suds routine automatically starts. This causes the cycle to go longer to remove the excess suds. Reduce detergent amounts or use HE detergent. The F02 error I had with mine and it is a drain problem. Book says check the hose for kinks, clogged or is it more than 96 inches above the floor. On mine it was the fan pump on the forward motor that drains the washer. It was worn and not pushing out the water fast enough. You will hear a high pitched whine at the front bottom of the washer if this is bad. To reset the washer from the F02 error, select pause/cancel twice to cancel the cycle. Unplug washer or dissconnect power. good luck
