Need a little more info. If this is a glass top, use a mild cleane without abrasives. Oven cleaner will destroy the top. if these are simply electrical burners, you can run them through a dishwasher.

THE STOVETOP ON MY KENMORE ELITE IS SO HARD TO CLEAN. BOUGHT THE STOVETOP CLEANER AND I STILL CAN'T CLEAN IT UP.

Try using some oven cleaner on the stove top. It will break up the cooked on gunk.

Stovetop heating elements turn off and on intermittently. They don't stay on.

The heating elements on an electric stovetop are controlled be a control called a reohstat. The reohstat regulates the temperature to the elements and as such they do cycle on and off during use. If you turned the control to low and the element stayed on all the time it would get too hot and burn what you're cooking.

Discoloration on ceramic top

Hi- High temps make for tricky maintenance of glass or ceramic tops. The heat element must pass its heat energy through the glass or ceramic and into the pan. Water droplets will steam away, while a spatter of oil or even a few grains of sugar will melt and burn to a tough film of carbon on the surface. The obvious preventitive measures of checking pan bottoms thoroughly before contact with clean (yes- very clean) cooktop surface mean most spots may be small, they can be annoying to look at and tough to remove. My best cleaning results for these spots came from using a VERY small amount of OVEN cleaner (use gloves) on a paper towel placed on spot for a few minutes. A clean, new razor blade may be used to scrape off film. Hope this helps. - Thanks- ED

Stovetop ceramic burner turned black and smooth

Do you have a proper ceramic top scraper ?, if not buy one (about £10 UK)

Get a bottle of cream cleanser and a plastic type pan scrubber

Soak the area with warm water , pour on some cream cleanser and work it in with the scrubber , when you have formed a nice creamy froth use the scraper to get underneath the scorching

It is a lot of hard work but it does come off

I have found that kitchen cleanser and a crub pad along with good old fashioned elbow grease is your best bet...

The fine scratches might come out with a good rubbing compound like the type used on car finishes...

My Kenmore Electric cook stove top has a black burn type spot on it and I can not clean it off. I have used baking soda, but it will not clean it. Any suggestions so I can get my stove top to look brand...

I poured a little amonia and used a heavy duty scrub brush to take off some of the same types of spots from a boil over. It took a little bit of elbow grease but it ewas the only thing that took it off after trying 6 or 7 different things. I hope this helps

My tappan oven will not always light

for the top burners you have to get to see the ignitors so that you can see the spark, the spark have to spark like a spark plug in the car, it most be on the tip of the ignitor.if not. the spark it's sparking on the wroung spot, wires may be wet or broken. thats one of the reason, the second one, there is small holes fasing the spark ignition on the burners when grease blocks them, they will not light, you can clean them with a paper clip or a safety pin. for the oven, some ovens do not have the spark sistem, they have the ignitor wich it looks like a small bar about 4 inches long by 1 inch some of them are round. thats the part that needs replacing
