Question about JVC AV-48WP30 48" Rear Projection Television

Green Tube Convergence Issue

My AV-48WP30 TV has been giving troubles for the longest time. The green convergence is way out of sync with the other 2 picture guns (hence the green color is distorted). I know there are ways to correct it but can't seem to find the correct link/directions. I got it fixed last year for a ridiculous $400 and the problem has since returned. Any suggestions or directions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

    Hi Dorothy,

Thanks for the quick response. The problem I have isn't fixed with the instructions you sent. I'm pretty sure it's a little more complicated than that, something more on the lines of hardware malfunction with the green gun. I know there are tips on how to correct them where replacing the chips are the key with a little bit of soldering, but can't seem to locate them anywhere. Thanks again!

i have a problem, and tried to fix it myself by adjusting the guns, color tubes. the green is the only one that is out. the red and blue will come into correct checker like lines on the adjustment, but green will not come in, off to the left, and top and bottom is like bannana shaped. any help would be appreciated. its driving me crazy that I cannot fix this myself.

Dorothy, I have the same problem w/the same tv, only mine is the 56-inch version: JVC Projection Television, Model # AV-56WP30. I've tried this based on the manual and it still won't work. Any suggestions of what I can do to try and fix it myself? I don't have $400 to pay a repair-person.

They should FIRST replace the convergence IC's, the convergence does not go out a large amount for no reason. these adjustments are only when the convergence drifts out of alignment a small amount. trying to make these adjustments without first replacing the convergence iC's will result in a very had time to adjust the convergence once the original problem is corrected. Shame on you to recommend adjust before a repair.

My JVC projection television AV-48WP30 has green and red streaks at the top with one long blue streak going across the screen. I tried everything that I could to fix it by the tv and remote and it still...

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc
